  • Changing string articulations

Hello, I recently purchased the Special Edition package and am still learning how to use it. I've been running into problems when switching string articulations (i.e. from legato to pizzicato). I use the key commands (C0, C#0, etc) to make the change part-way through a piece, but it doesn't just change it for that section but for the entire piece. So if I had pizzicato at the beginning and change it to legato later on, the beginning part is changed to legato as well. Am I doing something wrong? I didn't think I needed a separate track for each string articulation, but that's how I'm having to do it right now. Thanks for your help! P.S. I'm using Logic 8, if that matters...

  • Are you programming the keyswitches in your sequencer or are you using your keyboard to manually input your keyswitches?  How many different keyswitches are you using?

Maybe it is detail and not really your problem but your C0 or C#0 could be not the same in Logic as the Vienna Instrument it expects.

So try to set the keyswitches in Logic once an octave lower or higher.

I need to do it as well with Cubase

    C0 for VI = C-1 within Cubase

If this doesn't solve the problem - I'm sure there are others in the forum with tips...

  • I am using Cubase, but I also experience this situation whenever I change articulations and then start playback with an earlier position in the timeline. I can advise you nothing fancier than  setting an additional key switch with a different articulation in the beginning of your phrase to make sure the correct articulation will be chosen when you "rewind".

  • You have to "rewind" to a point before the keyswitch data. If you start after that point VSL will use the last articulation that was triggered by the last keyswitch it encountered.
