  • Appasionata I extended: legato samples better than standard library?

Am deciding whether to upgrade with the extended edition.

Much though I love the beatufiul sampling that VSL do and also the fantastic user interface, I'm finding the standard library (appasionata) a bit too smooth and artificial when dealing with the legato patches.  There's no progressive vibrato for example and also no feeling of odd players "sticking their heads out".

I get around this by layering solo strings in from East west  and I also use EW x-fade 2nd violins instead of another instance of Vi20.

I was wondering if the extended edition (particularly with regards to the progressive vib and different sustains) makes that much of a difference.

    Anyone care to comment?

I find that when I move the velocity crossfade (legato patch ) with the standard library I get a sense of the patch just getting louder rather than of 20 players digging in with the bow and "vibbing" a little more.

Can anyone do me a quick mp3 of velocity crossfading with the extended lib to show me if it makes much of a difference from the standard?

    Sorry! Lots of questions!

    Kind regards

    Matthew
