  • VSL, Sibeliuis and KONTAKT

Hello I am running VSL Special Edition and Sibelius 6.2 on a MAC OS 10.4.11. I haven't been able to set it up so that it works right yet. Following the online instructions and tutorial videos, I have installed the appropriate sound sets, which are now coming up in Sibelius Playback Devices soundset drop down menu, but the VSL is not showing as an available device. That makes the VSL soundsets unusable. I have contacted Sibelius support, and they are saying that I have to have a sampler installed, which was supposed to be provided by the VSL. I did a complete installation form the VSL special edition discs though, and no sampler was installed (at least that I can see). I am noticing that lots of users are mentioning KONTAKT and ESX24 samplers, but I do not have those. Are there downloadable sampler that could make this work, or is there another way of making this work? Thank you. Philip Lord

  • Hello Philip!

You don't need any samplers installed. All you need is the Vienna Ensemble software. That's the one, that should appear in your available devices list. If you haven't done so yet, you can download it at the following location:

To learn more about Sibelius and Vienna Ensemble I recommend reading the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual. You can download it at the following location:

  • Thank you so much. I was able to download the Vienna Ensemble software from the link you provided. The VE now shows as an available device (both as AU and VST format), as do the patches, but there is no sound. The audio settings (both global and within Sibelius (I assume that VE should be running in the rewire mode) are set to my audio interface (M-Audio Fireone610), and all other audio works fine, but not the VE. I read the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual, but did not find the answer to this problem. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot. P

  • Hello Philip!

You don't need the Rewire mode. This is for synchronizing Sibelius to a DAW software. Just activate Vienna Ensemble and load the instruments you have in your score.

If this doesn't help, please describe in detail what you have done.

    Best,
    Andi
