  • xFade with Solo Instruments. Unwanted chorusing effect

    Hi

I like using a slider or pedal to control xFade of velocity layers. It's a very expressive way to use VI.

I noticed that as the velocity layer cross fade into each other, at certain points where the Vel layer are overlapping there is a chorusing effect. This is more noticeable with solo instruments of coarse and less noticeable with string sections. It's also more noticeable with certain patches. The chorusing effect also happens when cross fading cells. This also happens in Kontakt when cross fading velocity layers. This seems to be inevitable because two different sounds are playing at the same time at the cross fade point.

My workaround is to turn off xFade for solo instruments.

I am curious if other VI users notice the chorusing effect and what they do about it.

    Thanks for any feedback.

  • Hello Composer321

I made the same experiences. But the more Layers you have the less "chorus" you get (normally).

So even if you have solo instruments you can use and try the X-fade with certain artikculations (sustain,...).

If you want to switch on and off the X-fade function during a piece you need one more controller...

    Once more:

Making music with samples is always a hard job and a matter of "making compromises".

Neverthess, the results are still "firing" me.
