  • DP7.2 Freezes or Hangs while using VE Pro

    Hi,
BRAND new user of VE Pro. so far using it, I love it. So please bare with me, I may be missing a few things in order for it to work to the best of it's ability on my system.

First off, my system is a Mac Pro 2x2.66 GHz Quad Core w/ 24G Ram.
Running Snow Leopard, DP7.2 and the latest VE Pro.

While using VE Pro Server (64bit) loaded with only 5 instances of Kontakt 4 from with in DP, upon saving my DP file it hangs for close to 30-40seconds. Previous to VE Pro, I was using Plogue Bidule, or loading all Kontakt Instances within DP. The more I had loaded, the longer it took to save a file, but not any wheres near the amount of time that is happening now. All instruments in my 5 Kontakt instances are not edited at all with Kontakt effects.

I have turned off KM Server in kontakt, and have even tried trashing preferences for DP.
If there is ANY info any one needs to help diagnose this, i'd be happy to respond promptly with said info.
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Kevin R.

  • one more comment, If i disable all VE Pro instances in  DP, then save. It saves in a FLASH!

  • In my understanding DP saves all the VE Pro information in it's file and that makes it so big. What I do is, decoupling the VE instances and save the VE Pro session as a metaframe. This way you keep the DP filesize under a few mb and it's very easy switching with different cues for example.

  • So by Decoupling, you mean run VE Pro as the standalone outside of DP and  not as a 'server'?

Also the one thing I don't understand is, in previous projects I've had the same amount of Kontakt instances loaded into DP, that I have now loaded into VE Pro, and DP always saved quickly. I guess because of the link between DP and VE Pro, there is A LOT more info to be saved?

  • ok i saw the 'decouple' button on each of the instances within DP. I decoupled them and now it saves perfectly. Thank you.

IF ONLY , i had opened up the PDF file I would have seen this as a viable option. But that would have taken me forever.

Now this means, any time I make ANY changes within a kontakt instance, now that it's decoupled, I need to save the VE Pro as a Metaframe to ensure all my changes are saved.

  • Yes, I encountered this same problem last week and it kept crashing DP.  Good to know that my solution was also the way to go.
