     I've just bought a MIDI controller keyboard i2Control25. I use Vienna with Sibelius 6. My computer has recognized the device, it doesn't need drivers, and Sibelius lists the device in Playback and the Preferences page test light is green. When I loaded a playback configuration with Vienna Enesemble I get no sound. What do I need to do next? How do I play Vienna sounds with this keyboard? I can't find anything on the forum about this. Thanks.

    I don't use Sibelius or the keyboard that you specified but this may just be some sort of MIDI routing issue.  Have you checked the global settings of your keyboard?  Make sure that it is set up to transmit MIDI data instead of receiving.  A way you can check is load up an instance of VI or VE with an instrument, rout it through sibelius, like you would normally set up a MIDI track, then play your keyboard but watch the Vienna GUI and make sure there is activity in the center circular activity monitor.  Check to make sure that the volume, expression and Vel.X faders are all turned up.

     Thanks for your reply. Actually I now have it working. But I notice that with solo violin the default patch activated by the keyboard is the sustain. How do I activate any of the others? I'm not wanting to do anything complicated. It's just to be able to test the sound of a given articulation and to use one for Sibelius' flexi-time input.

    Ok, do you have a preset or matrix already loaded?  You could just click on the individual articulations in the Performance or Control Edit views or go to the Control Edit and you should see the keyswitches on the upper right.  Of course, it depends on what matrix or preset you have loaded.

    Yes, I have an instrument loaded. I find with say solo violin that if I go to the articulations and click on any of the cells the moment I hit the keyboard the cell switches back to 3a the sustain cell. If I write an instruction in the score then the keyboard will trigger whichever one I've written. But I was hoping I could find a way to simply select a cell and play the keyboard just as you can within VI by using the mouse to click on the keyboard in the GUI.

    I'm using a 25 key MIDI controller keyboard so I assume the keyswitch keys are out of range, though I don't know if they would control the cells in this instance anyway.

    I am having the same problem as the OP.  Can someone please verify whether or not there is a solution for this? 

    My matrices automatically switch to Sus patches the moment I play my keyboard while playback is stopped.  The scores will playback just fine, but when playing on my keyboard to try ideas, regardless of what patch I select with the mouse or with a keyswitch, it automatically switches back to the sus patch as soon as I play a note.  Very frustrating.

    Hi there, I'm very new to audio creation on a PC so please forgive any newbie questions. I just purchased the Vienna Instruments Special Edition and also a Roland A-500S MIDI controller which attaches by USB. Everything LOOKS like it should be working (signal is being received from the controller-action in the center circle of VI; keyboard keys depress) but I am getting no sound through my monitor speakers. I think it must be a computer issue (something I missed somewhere) because it doesn't just happen in VI and VE, but Sonar LE (which came with the controller). I've tried the same things on both my Win 7 laptop and my XP desktop and the same thing happens on both systems. Again, please forgive my newbie-ness. I've been trying to figure this out for three days and I'm getting terribly frustrated. Any help you can send my way will be supremely appreciated! Thanks, ~Adam

    Adam, have you checked your routing and/or cable connections?  Among other possibilities, you may not have set the sound outputs correctly - i.e. you may be sending the sound to outputs other than the ones you have connected.  Also check your output levels.  Take a look at the mixer software within the soundcard, as the problem might be located within those settings as well.  Then <hiding head in shame, with face turning red> there have been a few times where I failed to get sound simply because I forgot to turn a piece of gear on.  Sometimes too, for unknown reasons, a key cable may fail, or no longer be properly connected.

    <edit> In essence, you are dealing with three different routings, any one of which could potentially be a source of trouble: 1) MIDI routing (from your description, this looks to be ok); 2) sound routing within computer programs/computer mixing setup, etc.; 3) actual hardware cable connections, equipment and settings - soundcard hardware, amplifiers, speakers, speaker wire/cables, etc.
