     Hi William,

    I'm listening as I type. All I can say is, very impressive. A very rich and full mix.

    I'm listening through my studio speakers while seeing how it sits on my PPM meters. My only thought is perhaps to notch back a few dbs around 90-95 hz, as I felt the basses were perhaps a little boomy.

    (I'm listening to the piece through the VSL master EQ)

    I'm a daily reader of the forums, but a very infrequent poster, if you're wondering. I felt moved to write something (albeit technical) after listening to, and enjoying this piece.

     Thanks Alistair, you are probably right about the basses as I have noticed boominess in the low strings but only EQ'd the cellos.

    Hi William,

    Quite pleased by the depth of field realized here. The stereo placement of instruments inside of the Mir soundstage seems a bit too specific to me. In other words, instruments sounded a little like too much of a single point source in comparison to a recording of a real orchestra. I listened to it pretty carefully on my studio monitors.

    I keep telling myself I don't need Mir but there is a lot to be appreciative regarding its sense of depth. It does seem like a great sonic unifier of the ensemble. I look forward to what Mir Pro may bring in terms of improved work flow. 

    I liked the music and can only imagine what kind of a headache to mix this must have been. It seems like you ran out of dynamic range towards the end of the piece resulting in the high strings being as loud as the brass section. In this type of music I would think the brass would be commandingly stronger than the strings.

    But thanks for posting and I enjoyed it on many levels.

     thanks Jack, you are right about the dynamic range being maxed out and in a live performance the brass/percussion would dominate totally.  Also, on the placement I did have everything rather close on the stage . I was thinking that since it was very rhythmic I needed everything very clear and may have overdone  it.  Thanks for listening!
