• Bugs on Vienna Suite? [SOLVED]

Hi: First of all, congratulations for the products you develop. The libraries are excellent, so are the plugins from the Vienna Suite I'm interested in. I'm planning to buy the Vienna Suite plugins to complement my VSL SE and VI Pro. I've downloaded the demo and I've checked that there are a couple of bugs. I use Nuendo 5 with a RME Fireface Interface on a Mac Pro Quad Xeon at 2.26 Ghz with 16 Gb RAM and Mac OS X 10.6.6. The things i've noticed are: - In the equalizer and master equalizer, the analyzer function doesn't work. That is, no analyze image is shown. - When you try to add a new plugins to other channel, via drag and drop the plugin from the first channel (holding alt), just to have the same plugin with the same settings, the system crashes. It has happen to me with the convolution reverb, and never had this problem with other plugin. On the other hand, I've read in one recent post that VST plugins from VSL (VI Pro, VE Pro and Vienna Suite) working at 64 bit depth are not compatible (doesn't show any graphical interface) with the host software (Cubase in this case, as Steinberg has not released yet the 64 bit version of Nuendo for Mac OS X) if this is working also at 64 bits. Will it be solved shortly? Finally, I'd like to know in which format must be an audio file from an impulse response to be loaded correctly into the convolution reverb. In Steinberg REVerence, for instance, if you want to load a true stereo impulse, you must load a single multichannel wav containing the four impulses from the different sources (LR) and mics (LR). How is it done in Convolution reverb from Vienna Suite. Thanks in advance.

  • The analyzer will only be visible when audio is going through the VS equalizer plugins. Perhaps this is why you don't see anything happening?

GUI's for the 64-bit VST2 and VST3 plugins on OS X are being worked on and should appear in an update soon. Note that 64-bit AU versions are already fully functional (and have been for ages now).

I've answered a similar question in another thread today: -> http://community.vsl.co.at/forums/t/27857.aspx ... scroll down to the bottom to see my reply.

  • Well, I am enough clever to know that tho see something in the analyzer must be some audio passing through it. In contrast, the analyzer plugins works fine (it shows the spectral information when there is audio passing through), it's the analyzer inside the equalizer what seems not to work. What about the drag and drop issue?

  • Thanks Dietz. I've read the entire post. When you talk about quad wav files, are you referring to multichannel wav files (that is, a single wav file that contains the four channels from the different recording made with the true stereo system: LL LR RL RR)?If so, what order may follow these channels in the quad wav file? In Nuendo (as any other DAW, I supose), I can create this quad wav from independent mono wav files, so I'd like to start using the rooms I've sampled in the last years. Thanks.

  • Standard interleaved quad-WAVs from Nuendo are fine (LL LR RL RR) for true stereo IR's, simple stereo IR's will do for mono-in/stereo-out. Any standard sampling rate and any bit depth up to 32 bit FP will do.

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you very much for the fast answer, Dietz. It's fantastic how fine does the VSL support works. As a suggestion, you should include all this information in the Vienna Suite User Guide. Not only it gives the user more information about how importing your own impulses, but opens a new world of possibilities to the users that still don't know that they can do it and how can it be done technically. It should also be a very good option to include, with the Vienna Suite, a tutorial (in pdf, for instance) about the basic mixing procedures with these plugins. I'm a sound engineer and a composer and have experience in mixing and mastering music, but a lot of VSL users doesn't have the fundamental knowledge to use conveniently the plugins for their own. For instance, a lot of people use reverb in traditional send/return mode, and it's Ok, but for convolution reverb like the Vienna Suite one, with all these possibilities of modeling the sound, it's much more effective to use it grouping the tracks per instrument families and inserting the reverb in the group track or, if used as send/return, put the send in pre-fader mode. It's only a small example, but I think you can complete these exceptional tools with a good guide explaining how to use them. Once more, thanks for all. PD: Oh I've been testing again the drag and drop in the nuendo mixer and it works now !!! Also the analyzer works properly!!! I think it could be some kind of error with a Nuendo session in particular, as the tests I've donee with different sessions show me that everything works fine. Sorry for the inconvenience. I'm fully convinced about the suite and I'll buy them the next week. Thanks once more.

  • You're welcome, Donmusica.

Does this mean that we can look a this case as "solved"? ;-) That would be great.

BTW - I'm working a lot on Nuendo (and Cubase), too - most of the time under Windows, but sometimes on a Mac, too. Using Cubase 5 on a dual-screen Mac once gave me similar display-problems like the ones you described above, not only with Vienna Suite-plugins, but also with the products of other manufacturers (e.g. SPAN from Voxengo). It seems to be a graphical issue that only arises under very special circumstances, and we've not been able to reproduce it consistantly. - I've never run into the "drag-copy crash" you were describing, though.

Re - manual: We will keep your suggestions in mind. You are right that this kind of information is not part of the manual. But I think that we agree upon the fact that a thorough discussion of all aspects of mixing is most likely beyond the scope of this kind of documentation. 8-) ... For comparison: I've tried to be as detailed as possible in the Vienna MIR Manual, but many questions to our support-desk show that most people are not willing to go through as little as 100 pages of documentation, even if the product is so different and unique like MIR. A final note: I hope that we will see you frequently on these pages. That's why I strongly suggest to access your User Profile (just click on your user name in the top right corner), select the "Community"-tab and change the "Content Editor" to "Enhanced". This way your paragraphs (and all other formatting info) won't get lost when posting a message.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks Dietz. Yes, we can consider this problem solved.

Thanks also for the advice regarding the editor. I was getting crazy because all of these awful format in my posts. Be sure you'll hear from me in this post, since I've found it very useful, serious and professional (and very fast in the feedback, of course). One finally question regarding the forum: is there any way to make a search for a phrase or a group of words? I haven't found the option.

    Kind regards,

    Don Musica

    Thanks.

I want to support this! A comprehensive manual is probaly not possible. But some guidelines and/orexamples would be very helpful.
