  • Kontakt 4 not "speaking" properly with Logic Studio while loaded in VE Pro

    Hi all,
I am new to VSL and was wondering if you could please help me figure out a hitch I've run into...

Background: When I load Kontakt 4 as a VST in Logic Studio, I assign the Kontakt patches their own stereo output. After creating a multi-timbral software instrument in Logic, I create Aux tracks that automatically "line up" with the Kontakt outputs, thus allowing me to control each track in Logic individually from the main Instrument track. All is good :)

Issue: I load VE Pro as a plugin on an instrument track (multi output x16) and go through the same process as described above in terms of setting up Kontakt outputs and Logic Aux tracks. I am able to see that, when triggered, midi is received by Kontakt (in VE Pro); however, the midi does not return to the Logic Aux track.

If I leave a Kontakt output on the default 1-2 (still inside VE Pro) that is related to Logic's Instrument 1-2, the midi completes the trip and I hear sound. From this I gather that the VE Pro connection works. I just can't get it to work like the "background" scenario above. Any help or advice would be much appreciated; I look forward to returning the favor once I gain a little bit of knowledge myself. Thanks!

  •  You need to use audio inputs in VE Pro and route your extra Kontakt outputs to these. If should be explained in the manual.

  • DG, Thank you for your help! How do you mean? Here is what the manual says:

"Now you can assign different outputs in Vienna Ensemble. It is also possible to assign the outputs underneath the fader of each channel. Open the Mixer page. Outputs 1–2 are automatically assigned in the Audio Instrument channel. You can add more stereo channels in ascending order comfortably by simply clicking the „+“ Button underneath the SOLO button in the Instrument channel."

In this method, though, the output of the Instrument (in the left column) is limited to one selection. How do I route each Kontakt track? Thanks, again!

  • Read page 23.

  • Thanks! With your help, I've figured it out. I just didn't understand the concept that when Kontakt is loaded inside VE Pro, Kontakt needs to speak with VE Pro which then needs to speak with Logic. It's not just Kontakt speaking with Logic. Duh! Thanks, again, DG.
