  • I want to buy Vienna Ensemble Pro... But what about Mir Pro?

Hello everyone! I'm really interested to buy Vienna Ensemble Pro... But the problem is that i'm waiting for Vienna Mir Pro. I know that VEP will be included with Vienna Mir Pro. So i'm ''forced'' to wait for Vienna Mir Pro, because i don't want to pay Vienna Ensemble Pro twice. :( Is there a solution for people in the same situation as me? Is there a possibility that you will give the ENTIRE credit back of the value of VEP included in Mir Pro package? I would like to hear an answer more than : we're gonna ajust the price or some approximations blabla... What can you do CONCRETLY for persons who wants to buy Mir Pro but need Vienna Ensemble Pro now? Because i'm currently waiting for this, thank you very much. =p

  • Hello Vincent,

It´s pretty easy: Get VE PRO 4 (the current version) now.

There will be a reasonable upgrade price to VE PRO 5 as soon as it is released. We have not decided on the upgrade price yet.

MIR PRO can be purchased separately (it only works additionally to VE PRO 5).

    Best,

    Paul

  • Thank you Paul. But will you sell a package that will contain VEP 5 + Mir pro? IIf yes, i suppose that you will do a special deal for theses 2 items combined... Or will this be the same price as if i buy Mir Pro and VEP separetly? If the package of VEP + Mir Pro will be a special deal, less cost that buying them seperatly, i'll have to wait i guess. =(

  • Paul,

I'm not trying to push for more than anyone would feel comfortable asking, but I'm curious to know when VE5 will be released. I know you can't hardly say anything, if at all. But is it planned to be in parallel with MIR Pro or released before/after?

VE Pro 5 will have an upgrade price? Does that mean it will have a larger feature set? Not that any new version doesn't have features, but I would imagine that charging for it means a notable upgrade from the previous version. Is that the case or is it simply relating to MIR Pro?

Lastly, and please understand I'm trying to be as general as I can, lol. But VI Pro 2.0 was announced with a few of the main features. Us users obviously don't know when it will be released. Do you have any idea when we can expect an anouncement of VE5? Even if it's very vague? (Like 6 months-ish, 1 year-ish or more?)

In the end, all I really am after is knowing whether it's sooner or later (not the release, but an anouncement with a general idea of what the new upgrade will entail) and if it only relates to MIR in the timing of its release or the features in the new version. Is there any of that you can answer, if even vaguely?

    Thanks,

    Sean

Some new features have already been stated, such as automatable parameters and audio input (thereby being able to use VE Pro as an FX rack). I guess that when the software is ready there will be a full run-down on the included features.

  • DG,

I wasn't shocked by the idea of a price, but simply felt that it meant new features. With that, I figure new features that warrant price would typically mean a decent feature improvement.

Audio input and being able to automate hardly justify a paid upgrade, imo anyway. Something like that is definately good, but it's the type of feature I expect to already be in VE Pro as opposed to VE. I appreciate coding requires money and maybe those two features take more effort than I appreciate. Because of my idea of what a paid upgrade would entail in features, I thought perhaps part of those features may relate to the VSL DAW thread (even if only a small relation to the ideas on that thread).

I was unaware of other mentions of VE5, so Paul's statement on here simply sparked my curiousity. I'm definately one of the most impatient users on the planet with beta news, upgrade news, etc, not just with VSL. Sadly, I'm out of luck here. Either way, thanks for your replies.

  • iscorefilm, I see in your sig you have an AMD processor. As far as I know MIR is not compatabile with AMD processors, but maybe someone from Vienna can confirm if this is still the case with Mir Pro? Anyway, just thought I'd mention that.

  • Vienna MIR doesn't officially support AMD processors, but we had several users reporting good results. It's very likely that the same will be true for MIR Pro.

  • Deitz,

With MIR Pro, the feature list on Sound on Sound seemed to suggest that I could load my samples, let's say in VEP5, and have MIR Pro on another machine. I'm thinking that this way I can keep my AMD (although I tested MIR successfully on my machine anyway)... but I could have a second MIR PRO specific machine.

    1- Is that possible?

2- What kind of RAM would that require? Figure my library is on a SSD, using VIP 2.0's SSD feature, so let's say I only have 8-16GB RAM on my "library machine"...  I figure that VSL would only use around 2-4GB of RAM at that point. Would MIR Pro's RAM needs rely entirely on how many sections/instruments it has? Is there any way we can guage the RAM needs. 1GB per instrument/section - or something...? Am I making sense? lol

    To Archie, or anyone...

As for my AMD reasoning- I like my AMD for certain things that it does very well. I have had a better experience with some things, such as polyphony. A pointless benefit is that I prefer the way AMD's integrated memory controller seems to 'feel' with certain applications. Some things seem smoother, but I realize that never convinces anyone, just giving my take. ADK did a test that pretty well reflected some of the certain benefits that I found. BUT Intel obviously has great things and the majority of users go Intel anyway, especially on here. So I see the need for Intel in every way, but I have yet to find reason to leave my AMD setup, aside from MIR. BUT, after testing it did work, and I'm thinking about getting a MAC anyway, so I can have DP for some of it's features. If I could use a Mac and AMD-PC for MIR and VE5, I'd rather do that then abandon my AMD setup and pay the insane price Apple demands

My biggest concern is MIR PRO RAM usage. I know it's supposed to be more effecient, and I know Dietz might not be able to share the info... just hoping to gauge what kind of hardware I may need, or how my setup could possibly work for MIR PRO, if keeping my AMD machine.

    Hi Sean,

While MIR Pro's engine has undergone considerable optimization, its actual RAM requirements haven't changed a lot. Once an arrangement is set and done, they will be roughly the same as they were for Vienna MIR (...see them here).

The actual numbers will depend on a diverse set of variables:

    - Length of the original IRs: The longer the reverb in a hall, the more memory the resulting IRs will need.

    - Output format: Surround processing will need more RAM than stereo.

    - Number of signal sources on a stage: Each active "Icon" on a MIR-stage will need its own pre-rendered IR set, thus it needs some memory.

... on the top of it, all sample-based virtual instruments like Vienna Instruments will need some memory, too.

I hope you understand now why I can't give you a simple answer like "1 GB per instrument".

    Kind regards,

  • lol, I completely understand. I should have realized those factors anyway, I just forget to consider them.

    Thanks,
