  • VE Pro 5 Bug - Kontakt 4/5

Just got VE Pro 5 and have discovered a rather serious bug. Platform details: Mac OS X 10.7.2 Kontakt 4.2.4 full or 5.0.1 player Problem is that when Kontakt is installed as a channel in VE Pro 5 launched as a VE Pro server instance, several UI features do not work properly. Examples are: * Spitfire Albion - lower half of UI that controls mic positions, etc is blank gray * Alicia's Keys - settings panel does not display at all * Cinebrass - Custom Map does not display on Articulations patches The interesting thing is that this does work properly using VE Pro as a standalone host (without server). The problem is only when the VE Pro instance is spawned form VE Pro Server. This happens on both my Mac Pro and my Mac Mini slave This effectively makes VE Pro 5 useless to me since almost everything I planned to use with it is Kontakt based. It happens with both 32 and 64 bit versions.

  • More info - if I create an instance from the server, this problem always occurs. If I create an instance from the VE Pro plugin (in Logic in my case), then everything seems to display and operate normally in Kontakt within VE Pro.

  • This is a design flaw in Kontakt, where some scripts seem to rely on audio processing to provide some of its GUI functionality. When a VE Pro Server instance isn't connected, there is no audio processing going on. We'll do our best to either work around it or have NI fix this bug.

  • Thanks for the reply, although I'm disappointed in the answer :-) So VEPro 4 did the same thing? I don't seem to recall ever seeing comments about this. I need to think through how to work around this on my end - the problem is it seems to remove the ability to use the Preserve functionality since that loads the instance from the server side, thus rendering the Kontakt instrument GUI inoperable. I'm new to VE Pro, so I may well be missing an alternative here?

  • This is happening to me as well while trying to use CineSamples products in Kontakt 5 in VE Pro 5. The interface is completely messed up and unresponsive... It also displays every window pane, simultaneously, superimposed on top of each other. I would LOVE to know if there is a workaround for this, would really like to use these sample libraries. Also for me, when loading these samples into a standalone version of Kontakt everything works great, but when in VE Pro the above problem occurs.

  • Just to be clear, are you guys saying that the GUI is unreadable when the server is actually connected to a project? I've never seen that with either Kontakt 4 or 5.

  • I'm having this same problem and found this thread from long time ago. This hasn't been fixed yet? Any workarounds?

  • As I said a "long time ago", this only happens when using an unconnected instance. Connect to your DAW and all should be OK. Is this not the case?

  • I had the same issue with the GUI being all messed up a few months back when I picked up Cine Perc.   Here is the response I received from Cinesamples tech support:

    *******

    *********

So, as DG said, just have your DAW running and all is good.  I will typically launch all of my VEP servers and load them before I launch my DAW (ProTools in my case).  If I check CinePerc before PT loads a session, the GUI is messed up (all faders superimposed on each other....).  But once I load a PT session, and the connections are made, the GUI is fine.

  • It is my understanding that it is all linked to the way that Kontakt works. If it was a VE Pro bug, I'm sure that VSL would have fixed it years ago. [;)]

  • I'm sure!  VSL is always on top of things.  This one isn't a show stopper - once you are aware of what's going on, you just kind of ignore it (well... I do....), and start your DAW and it sorts itself out.

  • Just to add ...

I also noticed this with K5 using some products from 8DIO and others. However, as some of the posters have said, whilst the interface looks all screwed up (say after loading the instance), as soon as its connected up to the DAW all comes good - like Magic ;D
