  • 4 instance with mir pro

My work environment is a mac (logic pro) and a pc (VEP server), I set up 4 instance in the pc , strings, woodwinds, brass, perc, now I need to use mir pro, how do I get all of the instrument can be displayed on a stage it? ?
If mir pro can only be used in an instance in the case, how to make logic pro to control more than 16different musical instruments instance it? (Add a VEP mulit timbral only 16 track)

  • Hello majing,

You are right, MIR Pro is actually designed to have all instruments of an arrangement coming together on one stage. Logic is not too capable as a host, that's why VSL developer's came up with a workaround to allow for more MIDI inputs per VE Pro instance (see VE Pro's Manual for details).

But a workaround is just that: A workaround. So it might be a practical solution to use more than one VE Pro instance as a platform for MIR Pro, too. As long as you're on the same computer, you can open as many instances of MIR Pro as you want.

    Kind regards,

  • You say that MIR has to be on one computer

How will I have to organise my setup if I cannot play my orchestral template on one computer

Will I need a MIR license per computer and mix them

As I understand it, you won't be able to put all the instruments on one MIR stage if you use several VE Pro instances. Is that correct?

But the workaround fixes this problem. Is there some disadvantage of using the workaround?

You could get a MIR licence per computer and do it that way. The alternative would be to convert everything to audio (or freeze) and use audio inputs. This method would mean that you don't have to use CPU for the virtual instruments as well as MIR. It might be worth you testing with just a few instruments to see how much CPU it saves you.

I can't play my template in MIR, but I can do it using freeze.

    1. You can load MIR in several instances, providing that these instances are on the same computer. The snag is that you will need to open more than one GUI to move your instruments around the virtual stage.
    2. I have no personal experience of the workaround, as I don't need it.

  • Now i use event input plugin to add second midi port to control more than 16 midi channl in one instance, but in logic side ,but one multi plugin only 16 audiotrack ,how to set up more audiotrack back to logic? This is possible?

I just did a trial with only 17 instruments played from my 91 instruments template

Setting VSL and logic buffers at 1024 this project use 30/40 % of CPU of my Macpro BUT THE BIG PROBLEM is that I have hangging notes !!!!

I hope VSL is going to find a fix, otherwise it is unusable, I am not going to buy 2 or 3 licences of MIR at 805 euro each !

My samples on the ssd raid are set to 81xx and the one on disk set to "default"

  • Hi,

Since I have a similar setup (but Cubase as DAW) , my question is:  what would be the easiest way to merge all my instances into one?

    (WIthout loosing my effect setup)

I'm not sure I can use 'selection groups'.

All my setup are with instrument pro,

I'm still blown away by difference in sound MIR has brought to my projects..

    Thanks!

  • Here is how I run my MIR Pro setup.

I have a ginormous template like DG does.  The way I have it setup is I create a new MIR Pro stage.  I create many different stage setups, with the varying instrument sizes.  So I have a solo stage setup with all solo instruments (3 total, one for strings, one for winds and one for brass).  I then save EACH one of them with a unique name such as solo strings in shubertsaal.  I have a chamber setup with all chamber instruments broken down the same.  Then ensemble ones as well.  So I have about 30 total stage setups saved as individual MIR Pro stages.

Then inside my template I have 200 tracks.  With all the varying possibilites including all of my other vendor products.  I do not connect any of my MIR Pro instances initially in the template so the template loads incredibly fast.  If during my project I need some chambers, I simply connect VE Pro 5 to the correct channels, and then open the appropriate vframe setup I created for that ensemble size.

I normally run 4-10 MIR Pro's at once on my machine in Windows 7 64bit.

Thanks for the enthusiastic feedback, Jean. Always good to hear first-hand experiences like yours. 😊

It's actually very easy and quite convenient to import single instruments, parts of a setup or even a whole template into another VE Pro / MIR Pro instance: A right-click in the Mixer or the Channel List will open the contect menu with options for saving/loading "Channel Presets" for individual channels, or "Channel Sets" for any number of selected channels.

The same context menu allows for copy/paste of selected features of a channel to another, like inserts, pans etc.

Do you mean 4 x VE PRO 5 containing 10 x VI PRO 2 each
