  • Redocking windows in VE pro 5

So... I was messing about with the new feature (un-docking windows) and moving them around, but now I can't reset it back to normal. Basically the channels window refuses to stay docked on the left if I try to re-dock the mixer or the instruments window i.e. Mixer and instruments re-dock at the top squashing the channels at the bottom. Is there are a reset view somewhere? Thank you!

  • Hi ciruwe,

Drag the title-bar of a window on top of another window.

  • Sorry for taking so long to reply. Your solution didn't work. Any other ideas? Cheers! C.

  • When a window is undocked, you can dock it again by doubleclicking its titlebar. When a window is docked you can rearrange it by dragging the titlebar.

  • Hello Karel, thank you for your reply. The double clicking only maximizes the window in question (for example if I double click the instrument's titlebar it maximizes covering all the other windows, main window included). I tried uninstalling and re-installing VE Pro 5, but when I tried to load the viframe it was the same. I appreciate your help!

  • Did you try doubleclicking the titlebar of this all-covering floating window? That will dock it back in the main window.

  • Actually, I tried restarting the computer and tried it again. This time it did redock the window, but now the channel strip is squashed at the bottom, the instrument's on the top left and the mixer on the top right. If I try to drag them they either just pop out again or they go back to this position. In other words I can't seem to place the channel strip on the default left column... But strangely enough I can put the mixer there.

  • I would attach an image for you to see but I don't know if this is possible in this forum...

  • OK, the only solution was to create a new viframe from an old project that wasn't docked (very annoying). I tried every other possibility, but the Channels strip would only dock at the bottom. Instruments and mixer were movable, but not back to its default location. I hope this issue is addressed in a future update.

  • Hi clruwe,

like you I am using Win 7 64 bit (and an I7 with 24 GB Ram ;-)

To me there is s.th. confusing with the docking/undocking feature... I mean, the description in the

manual is at least incomplete (could the manual have been written with OSX in mind?)

Undocking/docking Mixer and Channel windows works as decribed in the manual:

to undock or redock I doubleclick titelbar or click little "window" icon in right upper corner (not the "close"- icon..)

But to undock an instrument window, I have to click the "undocking icon" in the left upper corner (not in the right one, as

    described in the manual..)

To make it jump back to it's original position, I have to click the same icon for a second time. Doubleclicking it's titelbar

doesn't have any effect in either position.  Also dragging it's titelbar on top of another window doesn't have any effect here.

    Best

    Matthias

  • Hello Matthias, glad to hear I'm not the only one. I was starting to think there was a problem with my computer. The main problem for me seems to be the Channels window, once undocked it will only go to the bottom and there's no way of getting back on the left column. Everything else you describe sounds exactly what's happening to me. See below:Channels Squashed

  • That position shouldn't even be possible to achieve. Do you happen to remember how you managed to get it there (I can't get it in that position no matter what I try here)? At any rate, it can be fixed by deleting the VE Pro preferences found at "C:\Users\<YOUR_USER_NAME>\AppData\Roaming\VSL\Vienna Ensemble Pro.ini".

  • Hi Karel, thank you for coming to my rescue once again. As I explained above I deleted the project in question and created a new one. But I can easily replicate it by undocking all windows and then redocking them. It works fine if I just undock the mixer and instruments window, but if I undock the channels window, then I am unable to get them back in the right place. It's basically the channels window that doesn't give me an option of placement (the blue highlighted area in the background) and the other windows options just extend fully to the left. I attach another picture so you can see what I mean:

  • And here you can see that the option for the other windows has expanded from left to right:

  • I'm having this exact problem since quite some time and it drives completely me nuts!!

Once I undoced the mixer window I can't get it back to the original position (just the position below at the bottom below the instrument).

I woluld like to get it back to the position where I have a separate tab for the instrument and one for the mixer

This is quite an old thread. Any solutions by now?

(I'm on OSX 10.5.5. and VE Pro 5.4.13888)

  • Hi,

Did you click "Reset Windows" in the "View" menu?

    Best,
    Paul

  • Paul, actually I didn't click "Reset Windows" in the "View" menu...

Once I did, both windows went back to their original position.

    Thanks!
