I originally thought the sequencer in VI Pro would not interest me, however I have been using it out of curiosity and am very impressed - many cool things can be done very quickly. But, to me its usefulness is limited if I cannot export midi from it in the same way I can import a midi file. This means that I cannot put these files back into my host sequencer for back up (I know I can save Vi Pro sequences, but that is not the same) and orchestration at a later date. This would be a very useful feature, to me at least :)

Or am I missing something ?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

Glad you like the sequencer!

MIDI Export is on the to-do-list for VI PRO, but not with the highest priority.

Best,

Paul

Thanks for the reply Paul. That would be very useful - especially if a midi file could be exported that took into account all note performances resulting from trigger inputs to the sequencer.
I would encourage anyone who has not done so to have a quick play around with the sequencer - it can be very useful for mocking up string parts very quickly using the cell assign function and for other musical experiments you may never have even thought of :-)
Cheers,
Mike

Yes the ability to take a preset sequence or new one and be able to export it into your daw for further editing and then import it back in would be amazing!!!

Or simply add it to another VSTi.

Any chance of sending midi out in real time like Kontakt and record the preformance to another track?

Please put this higher on your list!!!

Hi Mike,

but you can copy and paste sequence pattern from one channel to another, hope this will help you first rather than thinking of exporting to DAW

because the way to change cell in a in sequencer is different to DAW

Hey Willy,
Thx for that. However to me it is an archiving issue, amongst others. If sequences can only be accessed through VE/VI pro then, ultimately, the sequencer won't get used. Thisis what has now happened to me, sadly. I was blown away by the possibilities of the sequencer (see my first post) but have now stopped using it. No flexibility when returning to pieces of music or backing up for use many years in the future (yes that is how I work :() .mid files are what is required here - ubiquitous and simple. To be able to make a .mid from performances using the sequencer (chords, phrases etc) would be awesome. Until then, sadly, it won't get used here much.

I too hope this rises higher on the list (like, all the way to the top :) ). The sequencer is GREAT for prototyping, but my workflow stops there if I can't export the MIDI to my DAW. How else can one elaborate the ideas and feed them to a notation program - i.e. use this tool for composing?

Here is one more user who has this hope.

The problem with exporting from the VIP sequencer to MIDI, is that the VIP sequencer has more capabilities than the MIDI standard can handle. Things like articulation assignments, slot masks etc cannot be converted to midi.

For me it would be enough to have the midi data out.

What about Music XML as the export format?

For me also a pure MIDI export would be sufficient. I need it for scoring. How should I produce scores from the output of the VIP sequencer. The only chance I have is to apply an audio-to-midi-converter.

But why can the articulation assignments not be converted to MIDI? Aren't they actually MIDI data anyway, such as keyswitches and controller commands?
