  • Multiple VE Pro instances with MIR Pro

Hi, I'm using Notion notation software and it can only assign 16 staves (i.e. midi channels) to each VE Pro instance. This means that I can't take advantage of a full orchestra in a MIR Pro venue in a single instance of VE Pro. Are there any specific strategies for using multiple VE Pro instances with MIR?. Regards, Alex

  • Hi Alex,

as MIR Pro was mant to be used as one unified spatial mixing front end for virtual orchestral music, there are no specific solutions for using multiple instances - but there are no built-in obstacles, either. As long as you you stay on the same machine, you can open as many instances as you like. Using MIR Pro on another machine will at least need an additional MIR Pro 24 licence, though.

    HTH,

  • Hi Dietz

Just an idea, why not separating VE Pro to Mir Pro ?

  • Hi Dietz, By "no built in obstacles" I assume that you mean that one of the options could be to open the same venue in 4 instances of VE PRO and just make sure all the MIR settings are the same except for the instruments loaded i.e. I could have strings in one instance, woodwinds in another etc. What would be the main impact on the sound? Or alternatively, how will the realism be affected? Regards, Alex

  • Well, in principle the scenario you describe shouldn't make any difference sonically. But you will have to take care for some not so obvious aspects, too, like the overall Roomtone level, global output level of all instances combined, any manual changes you apply to the RoomEQ, and so on.

IOW: It will work, but it won't be the most convenient way to use MIR Pro. :-)

    Kind regards,

You can't really seperate VE Pro from MIR Pro right now. Some of VE Pro's functions are crucial for MIR Pro. What _can_ be done is to make the underlying host functions less obvious and more transparent for the user, much like it was the case with "legacy" Vienna MIR. Ideally, the look and feel will be the one of some plugins sharing a common workspace for the chosen Venue. This is what VSL software engineers are working on at the moment (amongst quite a few other things).
