  • Vienna Imperial problem with "load" button

I just received the Vienna Imperial yesterday, and I'm having a small problem with the Mac version of both the standalone app and the plugin: The "Load" button next to the Factory Presets button does not work.  I can access the very nice Factory Presets, and I can tweak settings, and (it appears) I can even Save them (although I can't locate the saved file anywhere), but trying to re-load them does nothing.  Clicking "Load" results in... Nothing.  The Delete button doesn't do anything, either.  Only Factory Presets and Save do anything at all.

I'm running the latest version of Vienna Imperial -- v. 1.1.631.  I've re-installed, restarted, and nothing seems to help. I noticed that the Application Support folder contains nothing related to Vienna Imperial (although it does have Ensemble Pro and Instruments Pro folders).  Is that the problem?  Are those buttons trying to access a folder that doesn't exist?

  • Hi ostimusic,

Just tried that here, on OS X 10.6.8 - no trouble at all.

Did you try to repair permissions on the system drive already? Custom Presets are stored in /Shared Items /Vienna Imperial Presets in OS X.

  • Hi Paul -

Thanks for the response. I'm running OS X Lion -- 10.7.4. Maybe that's the problem? Can somebody confirm that Vienna Imperial works properly under OS 10.7?  (All other VSL software works perfectly under Lion.)

I repaired permissions but that didn't make any changes within Imperial.  Within OS 10.7.4, I can't even locate a Shared Items folder.  The "Users" folder has a "Shared" folder - not a "Shared Items" folder - and although there's a "VSL Custom Data" folder in that folder, the "VSL Custom Data" folder is empty.  There is no "Vienna Imperial Presets" folder in the "Shared Items" folder, and manually creating one - which I tried - doesn't fix anything within Vienna Imperial.

From the root level of my own user folder, there's a "VSL" folder, and it contains folders for Vienna Ensemble Pro, Vienna Instruments, and Vienna Instruments Pro, but those folders just contain cache folders dating from 2010 and early 2011.

All I can figure is that Lion (10.7.3 or 10.7.4) made changes that haven't been addressed in the latest version of Imperial, but I'd be surprised if I'm the first Imperial user to notice.

  • Hi ostimusic,

On Root Level of your system HD, you will find a folder called "Shared Items"

In this folder, please manually create a folder called "Vienna Imperial Presets" (you will probably have to confirm this with your password!) and, within that, another folder called "Vienna Imperial"  - this gives you the file structure Macintosh HD/Shared Items/Vienna Imperial Presets/Vienna Imperial/

Then please launch Vienna Imperial - can you save and load your Custom Presets now?

    Best, Marnix

  • In the latest version of Mac OS X (10.7 Lion), at least on my hard drive, there is no such folder as "Shared Items".  I even used a terminal command to show all hidden items on the hard drive, and there's no folder with that name.  I can now see the .Spotlight-V100 folder, folders called "sbin" "usr" "tmp" and so on, but there was no "Shared Items" folder on the root level of my primary hard drive.

So - I created one, and put the folders in as you recommended.  Problem solved!  I don't know why my OS had no "Shared Items" folder.  Now it works perfectly!  Problem solved!

    THANK YOU, Marnix!
