My apologies to all - I think the problem is NOT with the web page of the site, after all. It has to do with cookies, somehow (fate? version?). After I deleted all cookies associated with https://www.vsl.co.at/ I was able to place an order by pressing the "proceed to checkout". Thank you and please accept my apologies.
