  • Extended techniques and VSL ?

It would be great to know if Extended instrumental techniques will someday be available in VSL libraries. I think it would really make a quantum leap up for composers and composition.

The same question regarding mutes types : it would be a giant step to have more types of mutes at disposal (for brass and others). It would enrich the scope of expression and avoid some too recurring stylistic patterns.

  • I agree.

I d'like to have unmeasured pizzicato tremolo patches. What de you have in mind? Contemporary music technique?

  • Hi FredB,

Absolutely, Contemporary music techniques are still lacking in VSL libraries (and others) despite the huge qualities of this tool. Just think of the possibilities of using woodwinds multiphonics for example. A whole new world could be opened to creativity for composers. Quite obviously, there is here a critical gap to fill in order to reach what is done by contemporary and film music composers in the "real" world (those using real orchestras). And a library like the IRCAM Tools (I am sorry to say) does not fill this gap.

A feedback about that, from VSL team and you all composers would be great. Don't you think it would be the next great step for VSL and us ?

    Regards.

  • I know what you mean Eric. Some more variations of every articulation served in would be great. 8Dio is already doing this and according to them they are planning to release more articulations than VSL for all their strings in form of volumes.

As I already said before in my other post: I think Dimension Strings is a good idea for adding Orchestral Texture, Noises and subtle humanization. DS is also great for a Violin 2. Conductors will love it. A Violinist will love it. However, normal everyday consumers really wont capture the details. Therefore I really believe that adding expansion packs for Solo Strings or dimension strings would be extemely powerful.
