  • Mac computer crashes when Cubase tries to reconnect Ensemble Pro 5 instance

Everytime I open this project that has an instance of Ensemble Pro 5 server running on another mac, my main computer that has Cubase installed freezes up and I have to hard restart.... If I exit out of the server on my other computer, I can then open my cubase project because Vienna Ensemble isn't trying to reconnect... at this time, if I try to reconnect the disconnected instance from my VST Connections window it crashes immediately again. If i try to instantiate a completely new instance of Vienna Ensemble on the new computer, it's fine and opens up, but then of course I have none of my sounds/settings/loaded instruments etc... from the last saved project. If anyone can give me some tips on solving this it would be much appreciated! Thanks, Andrew

  • Hi,

Did you try to save the viframe/mframe of the VE PRO 5 instances separately, then connect to these instances from a new Cubase project?

  • Hi - I'm having the exact same problem. Running Mac 0S 10.8.5. drew571 did you ever resolve this, and if so, how?

    I'm on Cubase 7.

    Thanks

    Chad

  • This is a bit of a punt, but I wonder whether this could be a network issue as it happens for me an awful lot too, specficially when I try to connect to a slave that has crashed and I have to reboot the machine and reconnect to it. Just to clarify, it's not a crash but a freeze? I've lost an awful lot of work due to this; in fact, I think I'm going to have to kill the Cubase process I'm working on now and ditch an hour's work. It's a right pain because it usually happens at least once every day I'm in the studio and is by far the most common cause of loss of work for me. Incidentally, it's not specific to Cubase. The same thing happens when I use Logic too.

May I ask the developers what the timeout of the network socket in the instance of VE Pro running on the host is, and if it is set to something very high, could it be reduced to something in the region of 10 to 30 seconds? It looks to me as though it never times out if it fails to connect for some reason, so you get the cursed infinite spinning beach ball of death (on Mac at least) becaue, I would guess, it's a blocking socket in the main thread.

    Thanks!
