  • Vienna Instruments Player (not VI *PRO* Player) still in use?

hello all, I am looking at purhasing two of the Vienna Instruments "Special Editions". It says that these come with "Vienna Instruments Player". My question is if any of you are still using this "Player" and not the Vienna Instruments *PRO* Player? My budget is streched as is and no room for the *PRO* Player right now. BTW, I'm on a Mac using DP 8

  • Hello williemyers,

You will be fine with the "normal" Vienna Instruments. And when you want more, you can always check out VI PRO with a free demo license.

  • thanks for that, Paul

    a question, ifI may?

the text for Vienna Insturments (not PRO) says, "The Vienna Instruments Player is the basic mono-timbral software to run any Vienna Instruments Collection."

So, does "mono-timbral" mean that VI(notPRO) is not multi-timbral, i.e. cannot run 16 (or more) distinct midi channels in a single instance?

  • Correct. One instance per MIDI channel.

    Hi,

If I may add, Vienna Ensemble is a multi-timbral host for Vienna Instruments, and is included with Vienna Instruments (=comes for free with your purchase).

These Quick Start Videos will help.

  • Paul, I'm really sorry to bother again about this question, but it's still not clear to me (as to how it would work in my situ). Because of Event Plug-In's inablilty to bounce tracks in Digital Performer, I cannot use VEPro5 in my setup. So, allowing that I will not be using VEPro5, if I get Solo Strings and I want to do a "string quartet" in a DP session, can I:

(a.) put all four instruments (Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello) in a single Vienna Instruments Player instance iwth differeing midi channels for each instrument, or

(b.) would I need 4 x Vienna Instruments Players, each on a seperate midi channel?

    many thanks

  • (b)

  • or c) Use VE Pro, just never mind the Event Plugin.

  • thanks guys, that clears it up. Unfortunatley, Bill, VEPro5's not an option for me, as I use DP's Midi-bounce heavily and Event Plugin can't (currently) work with that [:(]

  • VEP and the Event Plugin are two different things; use VEP and NOT the event plugin...

  • hey Bill, thanks for your help.

unfortunately for me - using MOTU's Digital Performer  - (a.) not using Event Plugin means losing 16 channel/instance multitimbral capability, but (b.) using Event Plugin means losing DP's Bounce Midi Tracks feature. Both are features I use every day...

  • If you are limited to 16 channel per VEP instance, just use more instances. Unless your template is inefficient in some regard, you should be able to get away with this, and therefore not lose your needed bounce feature.
