This is harsh, but honest. I won't give anyone my money until Steinberg's upcoming notation software is done.

I own Notion, but it's far behind other notation programs. That's being modest. Cubase is still faster to compose in for sequencer work and Sibelius/Finale are leaps and bounds ahead of Notion for engraving and making your performers happy. Furthermore... Notion failed me while Steinberg has served me well for years. And Sibelius is the easiest notation program out there. Two of the greatest software teams, both of which I use as they serve orchestral composing better than anyone else IMO, are working on something better together now. What more could I ask for? It's a dream come true.

1) Compose in notation as easily and as fast as in a sequencer.

2) Quality and realistic mock-ups with less effort

3) As much automation over engraving work as possible to save time... while still having user control.

These things have seriously lacked in every other notation program... and this is what Steinberg is looking to accomplish. I'm not investing my time in learning and committing to something that is still behind the Sibelius/Finale offerings. With something better on its way, it makes even less sense.

I did not find anything harsh; in fact, I think everybody is waiting for the big event: Steinberg's notation software and its integration with their DAW. Indeed Sibelius and FInale are miles away from Notion. I was just wondering if this upgrade went far enough; that's all.

All best

I've used Notion with VSL in the past and manage to work with it well, but was never able to produce good scores for print. In the end, I always went back to Sibelius when I needed something printed. My opinion about this version is uncomplimentary, I see nothig but a pastiche, rushed to bring Notion into the Presonus domain. Time will tell if Notion will benefit anything out of this alliance, but I think not.

I share Sean's opinion, until Steinberg makes its move, I will remain deserted.

I've never used Notion, but I'm interested to see what happens under Presonus's ownership. Nor have I ever used Studio One, but if they have plans to integrate the two of them somehow it could be interesting.

I can't wait for the new Steinberg score editor to come out, especially if it means not having to leave Cubase for score-related tasks. I hate the Cubase score editor...

Cubase (OS agnostic). Various VSL bits and pieces.

Notion 5 has been out for quite some time.  I've been using Notion for a few years now.  It's quite a competent notation tool, with some limitations:

1. Engraving isn't as easy or as perfect as some might want.

2. There are limitations to MIDI manipulation.

I've been a strong supporter of the product.  I'd like to see what Presonus plans to do with it in version 6, which is coming soon.

I've posted numerous samples of my work with Notion here.  Here's a sample:

That said, I've recently purchased Overture 5 Mac and I'm very excited about the potential there for a Notation-based production platform with DAW features.
