  • MIR/MIRx Users - Konzerthaus Grosser Saal or Teldex?

    To MIR/MIRx users who have both venues - which of the 2 do you find has a warmer, fuller sound and can be more easily mixed with non-VSL libraries like Symphobia and LASS?

    I am looking to purchase a MIRx extension for my VSL Special Edition collection - if you were to recommend one for general soundtrack/trailer/library/film/tv work which would it be?

  • I am currently trying them as demo licenses. You could do that as well! Anyways, I like Teldex more for film scoring. Grosser Saal would be my choice if I wanted to emulate a proper classical sound, I guess.

    I did try both a while ago but ran out of demo time.

    I ended up going with Teldex for now... can't wait to get my activation code!

  • That was my dilemma too. I thought for sure that Teldex would be more useful. I use some of the Orchestral Tool stuff, and LASS, and Teldex sounds more like the libraries that I tend to buy. But, I use Grosser Saal more often. Go figure. Teldex is brighter with a slight midrange dip that gives some instruments (brass especially), a bit of a metallic sound. Maybe because some of the Kontakt libs are a bit hyped sounding out of the box, Teldex tends to add to that, where Grosser can sometimes tame it.

    That's been my conclusions so far. As I get faster with EQ I may be saying something different, but I get good milage out of Grosser Saal because I like the darker and bassier tone. My music tends to fit Grosser Saal, but I may write more with Teldex in mind.

  • For me it's the Grosser Saal. I tried all three, and they're all great, but there's something magical about having a long reverb time that actually sounds real. I don't think anyone ever said there's too much reverb on a good recording `that was actually made in one of these great concert halls -that generally only applies with artificial reverbs. In this case the sound is wonderfully natural if the reverb level is set appropriately.

    I'm looking forward to buying the other two, but I only have a couple of VI libraries at the moment, and these are a more urgent priority (as I switch to an all VSL setup).
