  • Program Change in VEP

    Hi,

A VIP custom preset, when loaded in Cubase, receives Program Change messages through Cubase Expression Maps and changes matrices accordingly. The exact same preset, loaded in VEP, receives keyswitches via note-on but ignores Program Change messages completely. Is it something the VEP plugin filters out?

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

VST3 doesn´t send program changes for some reason, unfortunately. I guess that´s what you are running into.

  • Thanks. Are there any disadvantages with inserting the VEP plugin in Cubase as VST instead of VST3?

  • Hello,

Well, you are losing the multiple ports...

  • Not an option, really... I'll figure out something with keyswitches instead then.

    Thanks a lot.

  • From the Cubase 8 forum: "Again, this is not dropped from the VST3 spec. The plug-in needs to implement this by providing a list of presets to Cubase."

  • AFAIK Program Changes are dropped in favour of Program Lists, but these are only available with a VST3 plug, which Vienna Instruments isn't. Yet......

So the hybrid nature of VEP; VST3 connector and VST2 plugs, is where the problem lies.

  • Do you mean that if I had another instrument, not VIP, something VST3 compatible, loaded in a VEP channel, PC messages would work fine through the VEP VST3 connector?

  • That I couldn't tell you. However, you could maybe check this for yourself with VST3 plugs. We've knocked off for the day, so I can't check for you. Sorry.

However, the two main instruments that would be handy are VIP and Kontakt, and neither of those have VST3 versions. For me it would mean that polyphonic legato would finally make sense, because I'd be able to use Note Expression.

  • Why not use the Event Plugin to get multiport functionality with VST2?

  • Bill: on my setup it's easier for me to replace PC with a keyswitch than to reassign MIDI inputs on 70+ VEP channels. DG: Every once and awhile I try to figure out how to use polyphonic legato, even without VST3 Note Expression, but I must have some kind of mental block... I've watched the video 10 times in two years.
