  • Logic X Export Tracks As Audio - Not with VE Pro 5?

    Hello,

How do you folks export your midi mockup tracks as audio files when getting a session ready for music prep people?  In the past I've just done it a track at a time with the bounce command.  But would love a global one command way to do it.

I have a large Orchestral template that I use (it was made in Logic 9, I'm now on 10 - I have not updated my multiport environment yet with the new one that came out in Feb this year).

Logic's features "Export Tracks As Audio" and "Export Regions As Audio" seem to be limited if you are using VE Pro 5 in a multi computer setup, it wants to see things that are attached to channel strips in the mixer.  So if you have Violin I and Violin II returning to the same Aux in the mixer, they get mixed together (if you can get it to work at all).  Bounce in place does not see the external midi tracks that refer to a VE Pro instance either.  It only seems to like "normal" Logic tracks that have a single instance of a plugin.

Plus, Export Tracks As Audio and Bounce In Place both want to start from bar 1.  Not good when the cue starts in bar 572.  Neither the region itself or the cycle bar will work to set the start time, as in a normal bounce.

It seems my only option is to bounce what I need in separate bounces.  Have you all found a way to do this in a single command?

    Thanks!

    Paul Mills

  • Hey Paul. I suggest to route each group to a bus. Name the AuX channels after the instrument groups like Stem Strings, Stem Brass etc or break it out even more like Strings Hi Stem, Strings Lo Stem, Brass Hi Stem etc. Once done create as many audio tracks as you've created aux tracks. To do so...Click on the plus icon in the main view or use the key command then in the track setup window set the input to the first of the instrument group busses and check Ascending (so all assignments between the Tracks will be done automatically). Enter the number of tracks and hit create. Create a track stack for the newly created tracks. Now if you record enable these tracks and hit record you can record your stems in real time. Don't mix up bounce in place with bounce tracks or replace tracks. A track bounce will always start from bar 1. Whereas a region bounce in place does exactly what the name implies. If you want to have V1 and V2 on separate tracks you have to route the Violins inside VEP first. In logic you should then use the multi out version of the Vienna server plugin or recreate your template with one instance per instrument. So you have one instance for V1 one instance for V2 and so on.
