  • [SOLVED] VEP sometimes hangs on load

    Setup:

Main Mac - running Digital Performer 9.1 and with an orchestral template running 12 instances of the VEP MAS stub plug-in (latest version 5.4 14074)

2 Secondary Windows 10 PC's - running VEP Server 64-bit with lots of instances of Kontakt. I put the VEP metaframe file into the startup items, so that when I turn the Windows PC's on, they automatically launch VEP Server and start loading all their samples. The only plug-in in use within VEP is Kontakt 5 (latest version) and that is running as a 64-bit VST.

    The problem:

4 out of 5 times, this all works perfectly.

1 out of 5 times, when I boot up the Windows PC's, VEP Server 64-bit launches, and the main window comes up (the smaller window that normally has the list of all my instances), and I see the overlay with the spinning ball that says "Loading data, please wait..." -- however -- it never loads. None of my instances ever show up, and even if I wait hours (!!) it never budges.

I can always fix it by quitting VEP Server and relaunching it, and it always loads fine on the next launch. Or I can reboot the computer, which will then auto-launch the VEP metaframe and, as stated above, 4/5 of the time it launches fine.

But why does it hang 1 out of 5 times??

    How can I troubleshoot this?

  • Bump. No reply on this? This still happens to me regularly.

I know that, since the writing of this post, VEP6 has been released. I have bought it, but not installed it yet, because I'm in the middle of a major project and don't want to risk it. Was the cause of this ever identified? Might it be fixed in VEP6?

It frustrates me regularly in VEP5.

  • Same problem here on Windows7. I gave up the try to start automatically with the project after boot, but nonetheless it hangs sometimes on load. But since i have upgradet to VEP6 it sadly seems to hang even more times.

  • That's very frustrating to know it might be worse in v6. I was already hesitant about upgrading mid-project, and now I'm definitely not going to upgrade until the project is over and I can risk the downtime.

Since this thread received no reply, I've just sent it on to VSL support. Hopefully they will help.

Is this possibly related to the dreaded hangs on first load on Monday Mornings?

  • Since the last update it seems that VEPro6 works fine. About a week i have no more crashes on dayly loads.

I have yet not tried to autoload it with win-startup. Will do that after a time. So that i can be shure about the normally startup.

I heard back directly from VSL's tech support that they believe they have fixed this bug in VE Pro 6. So hopefully it's gone. I haven't updated myself yet, but I will soon.
