  • AMD Ryzen thoughts?

I am curious how VSL works with the new AMD Ryzen cpus. Seems to be an affordable way to get more processing threads for MIR, and large projects. According to benchmarks they seem to do well against Intel in productivity tasks. So has anyone taken the plunge and tried it? If so, what is your experience with it? If anyone from VSL reads this, have you tested it yourselves?

  • I have an amd fx8350 in my main workstation that serves me since 5 years. It's a nice processor for musical tasks because of 8 phisical core, but it lacks in single thread performances (so important for music production). Year after year I realized that if I had purchased an i7 instead, that was a bit more expensive, I would had a better experience and less problem. Now, I'm afraid with the new Ryzen cpus could be the same...performances are not everything, our first goals are stability and reliabilty.

  • I appreciate your feedback! It seems that Ryzen will be a big leap forward for AMD so maybe these reliability issues won't be present. Some kind of bottlenecking seems to be happening at the moment, according to this review: http://www.scanproaudio.info/2017/03/02/amd-ryzen-first-look-for-audio/

If this changes, I might look into AMD in the future. At the moment I'm sitting comfortably with my I7-6700 but more threads for about the same price would be pretty nice.
