  • An Appreciation of the VSL Forum

As sort of a companion thread to Guy's "An Appreciation of VSL" I just wanted to say how impressed I have been over the years with the contributers to this forum.  I have learned so much from so many people and not just about the ins and outs of VSL but also about music and art in general.

The majority of the musical pieces posted by composers/arrangers on this forum are not only professional but also inspiring and nothing short of stellar.  You could learn so much by just listening to the musical pieces posted even from newer users who, although may not have a full grasp of how to use the software, still make wonderful music.  As somebody who came from a Pop Music background I feel so puny at times questioning my own right to say anything on this forum.  Put simply: What the hell do I know?

I have been involved with many forums since the dial up days of the 90s but I have religiously frequented the VSL forum since about 2006 which is the longest I have ever been involved with a forum.  I keep coming back here time and again and, time and again, I learn something new.  I even learn from people with whom I disagree with on a regular basis.

The caliber of the people who continually visit this little nook and cranny of the Internet has just astounded me.  We have some of the brightest, most inteligent, creative, and interesting folks this side of cyber space and I just wanted to say thank you to all of those who have contributed over the years as these contributions have helped me develope my craft as a composer.

The fact that so many erudites congregate here is a testament to the professional quality of both the VSL products and the professionalism of the people who work for VSL.  Other companies have a forum but then put it on auto pilot thinking of it as a way to slough off support requests to their users.  But here, Paul, Dietz, cm, Stephen, and others are all happy to help and treat everybody the same wheher you've poured thousands of $$$$$ into VSL or you just have a single download.  And every once in a while Herb himself will chime in to help somebody out.

I know I sound like I'm groveling to VSL here but I just felt like it was time for me to say "thank you" to not only the company but also those who contribute to the forum 😊

  • Absolutely true, and amen from another user (me) who has been using VSL since the Gigastudio days and though I post only rarely in this forum (even though I do fall into the $$$$ group, ahem), I visit and learn frequently. The quality of information is unmatched from any other source. Thanks, jasensmith, for expressing these sentiments as I am sure there are many, many more of us who feel the same way.

    Cheers,

    Craig

    I agree with you 100%,

it's also a very nice community, established composers as well as new musicians can share their work here and ask for feedback......on the other hand feedback is given in a positive and polite way which makes it easier for the message to come across correctly.

Many times when I felt stuck with an arrangement or a mix I posted here and the feedback help me to identify the issues and obtain a final product that I simly wouldn't have been able to get if I hadn't posted! 😊

Above all I found the forum inspiring: no spam, no trolls, no hate......just a bunch of talented people posting good music and awesome tips.

    Thanks VSL
