  • Problem in VI Pro2: Samples play w very long release

    Hello,

been searching for this problem, but entering vsl, vi pro and samples obviously gives me too many results...

I have a template with some VSL woodwinds (solo instruments), loaded in VI Pro 2 -> VE Pro 6, played from the master PC running Cubase 9.5

For some reason, VI Pro will play back many long samples (legato etc) with long release (+3s) no release samples are loaded, and sometimes it seems as if there was an envelope with a slow attack as well.

Happens so far with Triple Horn D, Oboe, Bassoon 1... I can do a screen-vid in case that helps...

I've checked sustain pedal (cc64), options in VI Pro (envelope, mixer etc). I also reinstalled some libraries, but that didn't change anything. I don't use VI Pro so much, but until now I managed fairly well with the software.
    Anybody exprience this before?

    Thanks for your help,
    C

  • Hi cmatt,

I think you have iexperimented with the ATTACK and RELEASE times...

When you load a new preset, the problem is probably gone, correct?

You can also send the template to support@vsl.co.at, we can take a look.

    Paul

  • yes! thanks, that was it.
i had checked those settings, but didn't manage to set them to default again. all good now!

is there a way to set those options to default for all presets? or do I do it manually?

    Carlos

  • Hi Carlos,

If you activate "Synchronize Control Map" in the VI / PRO SETTINGS (button left to the Basic/Advanced View), this will synchronize all Performance Controllers in all instances on your computer.

    Paul,

I was not previously aware of this feature, so I looked at the most recent VI Pro manual. I am still not entirely sure if it synchronizes only the controller MAPPINGS across all instances in a project (VERY useful if it applies only to all checked instances) or also the data of each controller (not sure how this is useful, since it would make all controller DATA uniform, seemingly an undesirable thing).

Can you clarify exactly what this setting does and how it might be used? And what to avoid doing that might mess up a project?

  • Hi,

It synchronizes the assigned Controller CCs (NOT the incoming MIDI Data).

We assume that most users are working with the same controllers for all their Vienna Instruments, so this is actually a quick helper for bigger setups, or if you add a new controller or change your setup in any way).

  • Perfect. That's what I hoped for. This is a great feature.

A thought here. It might be helpful if future development allowed us to set up specific instrument groups that could synchronize what controls appear on the main page. That way all string instances could be set up one way, all brass and woodwind another, etc.

  • Hi DaddyO,

We are trying to keep things as simple as possible.

Please give me an example why you would assign a performance control with a different MIDI CC for brass, woodwinds and strings.

    Paul

Not the control assignments themselves, just which sliders appear on the VI Pro main screen. Not a big deal, just a thought. Keeping it simple is probably the best policy.

    Hi,

Ah, I see. Yes, the Controls on the basic page are also synced... I always think that's a great advantage... 😊

Let's see how this new feature is received, so far, everybody seems to like it!

    Best,
    Paul
