  • Vel X-fade in Syncron Percussion

    Hi

I'm trying to use Vel X-fade to control the volume on a timp. roll. I have done this before but suddenly it doesn't work as expected.

This is what I do: The preset is controlled by velocity, I think that's apropiate, but to use vel X-fade ONLY on the rolls samples, I selecet the roll cell in the matrix, and go to the advance page, select the slot where the "sound" (10 Tmp-Ad-mr_Rolls_close) is loaded, select edit and go to the "velocity XF - global" and set this to On.

As far as I recall this used to work, but now it doesn't. Is it something that I have forgotten? Or is this changed?

  • Hello Stig!

I guess you have tried it with the wrong patch. There are two different kinds of timpani roll patches for the Synchron Percussion. The normal roll patches will help you to trigger the wanted dynamic when Velocity XF is turned on. Velocity is disregarded and the dynamic layer will be chosen according to the setting of the Velocity X-Fader. The "Rolls_XF" patches make use of Velocity X-Fade as you have expected.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hi Andi

But why can't we have the standard timp rolls with 16 vel layers controlled by an fader. I think it would make a much easier solution to control the volume. Can I change the behaviour in the player?

  • Hi Stig!

The player has a limit of six velocity layers for Velocity XFade. Using more layers would bring most computers to its limits quickly. All velocity layers are streemed simultaneuosly. That's why there are two separate patches. You have access to all 16 velocity layers with the other patch and also with the "Rolls_XF" patch, when velocity XFade is turned off.

  • Okay.

I understand. The player has to load ALL samples, yes that could be a heavy load.

But you know I'm on Cubase, and I use VST expression maps, so the way I go about is to create an expression that has a CC1 of 90, but the second I do that ALL the other expressions has to have a CC1 0 assigned also. Means much more work.

It would be fantastic if we could have an inteeligent system that would allow us to assign a prg. number to a specific slot. Maybe in the Syncron Player????

    Synchron Player, too?

  • Stig, you could switch the Roll and the Roll_XF patches in your preset, if it makes life easier for you.

TFIS, as more than six velocity layers for Velocity XFade is performance-heavy, we will not provide such patches for the Synchron Player either in the nearer future.
