  • Accidental validation of VSL - re-validated!

I don't use Soundcloud much but happened to look at their notifications after hearing someone else's music,  and saw that they had taken down my VSL performance of Beethoven's Fifth 1st movement.  They thought it was a copyright violation posting of Herbert von Karajan!  So VSL is giving von Karajan a run for his money.  A rather good testimonial !

Now, this is brilliant! Congrats! I'd re-release the performance with new album artwork and "see what you could get away with" 😊. Dave

Soundcloud reinstated this - I had totally forgotten about it! I thought I had removed it.

And guess what? Uh-oh! IT'S SYNCHRON STRINGS! Oh no! I utter those words with trepidation.

    Beethvoen 5th 1st Movement

ACtually I had done this with previous strings - Orchestral I think, and then retooled it for Synchron. I don't know if it's any good but I decided to put it on since it re-surfaced from Soundcloud.

  • Congratulations Wilhelm von Kersten!

  • To be serious: is this not a great example of a skillful musician and programmer of virtual instruments demonstrating that while not perfect, Synchron Strings in capable hands, can be made much more convincing than one might think!  After everyone's FAHL from grace on the other thread, I for one am glad we're getting back to music.

    Congrats again on this, Bill!

  • To be serious Dave, thank you. This was not to be serious because I did not want to suffer a fahl myself. It was just having some fun playing with Beethoven. Errikos I am surprised you were not involved in the spirited and friendly chat on how to improve your chances at being committed to an institute for the criminally insane... I mean, how to improve synchron strings. Lots of warm and jovial conversation you would certainly enjoy.

  • Precisely what thread was that?!

Unless this was a discussion regarding programming exclusively, so I would not feel confident enough to participate in my usual collegial and supportive manner, due to my self-knowledge that I don't belong in the top echelon of that category - unlike others here...

Great Exsample of Synchron Strings. Nice to hear all so luccky about them ...suddenly..

Funny how fast and easy it was to improve Synchron Strings😛

Glad to see you all that "serious". Great comunity!!!!

  • Oh Errikos, you missed it!  Actually I realized, it shouldn't be encouraged.

  • Congratulations William!

Your experience with Soundcloud should be a lesson to all of us. We nitpick so much about every nuance of a sample library when we should be grateful that such marvelous software is available to us. If you can fool the Soundcloud folks, you are probably doing pretty good work!

I think I am grateful for missing the big debate you folks mentioned. I have had so much going on this summer that I was not checking the forum. I guess I was lucky!

  • Great William!

I specially like the personal interpretation, I can't remember any version I've heard so far (and there are so many) with your kind of vision on the performance. Straight forward, powerful, intense and with well chosen accents in the phrasing.

So the overal performance appeals a lot to me. However, some attacks (in several instruments) sound a bit too harsh, but probably that's because I'm used to the many other real recordings with a softer approach. So forgive me my personal opinion on this detail. But as said, a very interesting and renewing interpretation!

Happy I'm back on the forum again after a long and far too hot summer. I couldn't work/listen in my studio for such a long period...

    Congrats,

    Jos

  • Thanks Jos and Paul.  Paul - you were indeed very lucky not to have been aware of that ... other.... thread.
