  • Workarounds for old 32-bit Altiverb not showing up in VEP 6?

It showed up fine in VEP 5, as it does in hosts that support 32-bit plug-ins (Pro Tools 10, Bidule...).

Of course I could update Altiverb, but it's not a trivial sum, and v. 6 is perfectly fine. So...

Any workarounds? There's no way to run the 32-bit VEP 5 and 64-bit VEP 6 servers simultaneously, right?

    TIA

  • VEP6 includes a 32bit server.  Its the one named without 64 in the name.  So you can run that side by side.  You might be able to get Altiverb working with 32Lives, but try before buy.

  • Right, of course I meant in the 32-bit server - VEP 5's 32-bit server runs Altiverb 6 no problem.

32Lives looks great, except it's $100, and I need all my $100 bills for kindling.

    :)

In the meantime I can run Altiverb in Bidule or Pro Tools 10 and loopback the audio into Logic.

But thanks anyway - I do appreciate the help!

  • I don't understand the problem.  VEP6 has 32bit server.  WHy do you need to use VEP5?  You can run the 32bit server and 64bit server at the same time.  Do you still have a problem?

  • It's in my first post + its subject: Altiverb 6 does not show up in 32-bit VEP 6. It did in 32-bit VEP 5, it does in other hosts that support 32-bit plug-ins, and it's the only 32-bit one that doesn't show up.

  • So I guess the best solution is to us the stand-alone VEP5 (not the server) and audio loopback.

  • I see. I didn’t have vep5. Does it come in seperate servers for 32bit and 64bit? What happens when you try to run vep5 and vep6 at the same time? Vsl provides very little info or help in vep with regards to figuring out why certain plugins won’t pass scanning in order to appear on the list. On my Mac vep crashed numerous times while trying to scan through my plugins and presumably some of my plugins didn’t make the list though I haven’t yet run into a situation where I needed one that didn’t show up

  • VEP 5 also comes with 32- and 64-bit versions, and as far as I can tell you can't run both the VEP 5 and 6 plug-ins simultaneously (which does make sense). The 6 plug-in doesn't see the 5 servers.

You can run both servers at the same time, but that's not much use without being able to connect to both.

Ah the problem is the vep plugin itself. Dang that sucks. Or just stick with vep5 for now but that’s sorta lame. I can’t think of another solution that doesn’t cost money aside from running altiverb in some other host and piping the audio around which is a pita and doesn’t give pdc.

  • Actually, I think the Logic I/O plug-in does have PDC.

But again, the stand-alone 32-bit VEP 5 - the one that doesn't do audio-over-ethernet, i.e. not the server - is probably the best solution. Routing audio loopback isn't a big deal with the Metric Halo interfaces.
