  • Zones from keyboard or software?

Hi. I'm returning to VSL after 5yrs. To split a keyboard into zones for different instruments do I still need a keyboard that has that feature? Or can I do it from the Vienna software using a keyboard that does not feature zones? I read that Logic X does that.

I'm struggling to decide between buying a Yamaha P-125 digital piano which doesn't feature zones and a Studiologic SL88 which does. I'd far prefer the piano that I can play for 5 mins without having to fire up my laptop, hard drive, Logic and speakers. If I can set up zones from the software, bingo. But for the next few months i'll be adding bits of orchestration to eight of my songs. This will be a huge challenge for me. I never used to bother much with zones but I'm guessing it will make my task much easier.

If I do need a keyboard that features zones can someone explain why, as I don't understand why the software can't sort out the midi itself.

    Thanks

    Hi zenith,

    Welcome back!

You have a few options there.

    1) Adjust the range in Vienna Ensemble, in the upper right corner above the VI / PRO screen.

    2) With VI PRO (which you have), you can adjust the range of each slot.

    Hope that screenshot helps!

Also a very cool option to start: Our Inspiration presets (last video in the list) that are automatically available in VI PRO if you have Special Editions Volume 1 & 2.

AND the newest addition: Vienna Smart Orchestra (currently available with our smart offer).

    Best,
    Paul
