    Is it possible to assign the expression, for example, to not be global. For example if I have string section loaded in one instance over 6 channels, woodwind over another instance etc. When I assign the expression to midi learn for the mod wheel, for example, it affects everything, so I lose all my independence on various insruments. I don't know if this is making sense? I'm sure I used to be able to do this.

    Try turning off or deactivating the other 5 channels then record the expression for each track individually. Bounce the track to audio. Deactivate that track then move on to next track and so on.

    If you're using VI Pro, turn off Synchronize Control Map, which is made to do specifically that.
