  • Confusion re Ensemble elicences

    Hi.
I am new to using VSL software, and am running Logic on my Mac Pro, but have a PC on my LAN which I want to host my Vienna instruments.  I wanted to try running the free Ensemble 64bit server on the PC to see how well this worked from Logic, before upgrading to Vienna Ensemble Pro.  If I use the elicence dongle in the PC to run the Ensemble service, I'm supposed not to require a dongle for the Mac running Logic.  However, if I try to use Ensemble or VI Pro on a track in Logic on the Mac, it requests a licence, then Logic crashes.  Probably my understanding of how this is all supposed to work is very limited, but I'd be grateful if anyone could point out what I'm doing wrong.

  • Hi, you can't use the non Pro version in a master-slave setup like you described. But there is a free 30 days demo version: just go to the product page and on the left, near to the buy button there will be the demo request button. Make sure to download and install VEP Pro on both computer and put the elicenser in the slave computer. Best, Ben

  • Many thanks Ben. Saves me a lot of time and effort. I’ll check out the demo version. All the best. John.

  • I have one further query.  I'm in the process of downloading the trial version of VEPro 7.  How do I move/cope the instruments which are installed on my Mac Pro to the PC, to avoid having to download everything again?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Simply copy them to your destination. Then use the Directory Manager for VI Instruments / the Synchron Player Settings for Synchron Instruments to add the new path(s) to the configuration.

  • That’s great. Thanks again so much for taking the time to help. All the best.

You aren't required to have two licenses for connecting with VE Pro; however to run not-Pro on a slave you do need to run VE Service on both. Apparently this would entail buying a license for 'Vienna Ensemble x' beyond the one granted to you from Vienna Instruments.
