  • VEPro Server autostart before Win7 logon

I want to have logon password security on my VEPro server machine (Windows 7) but I would like the VEPro server to start on boot (before logon).

So far I have created a service using Task Scheduler. Following these steps

    task-create-run-program-startup-logon

This worked, but when I logon to the machine there is no sign of the VEPro Server GUI. The only outward sign that the VEPro server is running is CPU usage changes when notes are played on the DAW. As a sanity check I can see the server is connected and running from the VEPro plugins on the DAW.

I'm sure this is a common requirement among VEPro users, thanks for any comments.

  • Hi,

it seems to me, VEP is not running on your user account. You can check that in the task-manager -> users on which user the VEP is running.

Make sure you did not check the "Run with highest privileges" in screenshot 7, and that your username is diplayed in the same screen. If not, click on the "Change User or Group" and enter your username.
If this does not work I would try to enable "Run wether user is ligged on or not"

    Best, Ben

  • I definitely want it to run whether logged on or not so that has been checked.

Thing is, I can't see it at all in Task Manager except when CPU usage is high in the server, I see that.

I tried unchecking "Run with highest priveliges" but then it didnt load at all.

It seems that Run whether user is logged on or not. results in the program running "non-interactively" this is what I'm seeing and definetly not what is wanted! task-scheduler-problem-run-whether-user-is-logged-on-or-not?forum

I suppose my choice for the moment is to log on every time I use the server, or leave the machine without security.

I'll keep experimenting to a point, but is there another way?

  • Try using the flag /INTERACTIVE in the arguments text-box (screenshot 14)

  • Thanks for posting.

I've tried this so that the Action Details is

    "C:\Program Files\Vienna Ensemble Pro\Vienna Ensemble Pro.exe" -server /INTERACTIVE

Again the task runs (it shows as "Running" in Task Scheduler as well as serving the DAW) but is invisible in Task Manager apart from CPU and memory changes in Performance tab.

Are the VEPro command line switches documented anywhere?
