  • Crazy CPU Spikes with 8 Horn brass blowers - Synchron-ized SE

I'm working on a piece where the Velocity Control CC1 of the 8 horns sustain is placed on Modwheel.

I also have about 8 tracks, 5 staccato and spiccato strings, Steinway-D274 and Clarinette thrills.

This works in the first 20 bars without any problems.

Now I want to record 4 new bars, so far all tracks are empty, except for the Steinway piano.

The 8 horns sustain are cut off at once and the cpu display goes to maximum. So I'm playing a new track with fewer instruments and notes than before, and I can't do any more?

Deactivating the Steinway piano does not help. Deactivating other instances does not help. No matter what i try, the 8 Horns patch kills the cpu when playing any note.

It doesn't make any sense for me that it's not possible to record in the empty new tracks anymore, although everything will be played cleanly until then. It almost seems as if suddenly only 1 core of the processor is used, and not all of them anymore.

I've changed all possible settings in cubase 10, set buffer to 256 of the 512, it doesn't change anything. I can't work with Synchron-ized at this point anymore. Deactivating other instances doesn't change anything either.

The 8 horns create massive load and the sound is cut off it drives me crazy.

It is, that after playing the tracks before suddenly nothing works anymore. I don't understand what is happening.

    Setup:

MacBook Pro 4 Core, 16 GB Ram, SSD internal and external.

Cubase 10 Pro, multicore support active

    Synchron-ized SE complete

Has anyone ever had a similar experience?

  • Hi,

Which MB Pro is that (year, CPU)?

How is your SSD connected (for sample-streaming)?

Does it get better if you manually increase the PRELOAD size?

I assume that this is the impulse reverbs that take this toll... What happens if you deactivate those in the mixer?

    Best,
    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

thank you so much for the quick response.

It's a MacBook Pro 2013 with 4 cores 2.4 or 2.5 GHz, I don't have it near me at the moment. I connected an external SSD via USB 3, that was sufficient so far. The reading speed was about 340 MBs which is not bad.

The problem has never occurred before, and I've already used significantly more tracks with the library on this MacBook.

I'll try deactivating the IR. I also suspected it today, but haven't tried it yet.

I think it only occurred after I chose the Close setting because I wanted a more direct sound.

Is there actually a possibility to set a default setting for the IR for all new Synchron instances? I built a complete VEP template on my MacPro where I manually switched off all IRs and that would have been a good feature.

    Best

    Andreas

  • Hi Andreas,

    Thanks for the details!

Yes, I have been wishing for a global "IR OFF" button as well (and panning reset, for that matter)... For now, it's every instance on its own.

Let's see how quickly we can improve this, and let me know how it goes for you with deactivated IRs.

    Best,
    Paul
