    Hi,

    Just saying hi, after many years of being off the forum!

    My USB eLicenser has been playing up for some time, occasionally I will get an error message saying that it is not connected. Sometimes when I do the clean up process using the eLicenser software, it fails. When I power down, restart, it always works fine. Is this a sign the dongle is failing or more likely the computer or software? I'm on Windows 7 SP1.

    How old is it? If it's more than 2 years old replace it immediately.

    Can I ask - why is that? Because they should always be replaced after 2 years or because it is showing signs of failing?

    Well you can keep it for as long as you like but the warranty is only good for 2 years. After the warranty expires VSL is not obligated to replace your lost licenses in the event of a key failure. I think it's half price if you want the licenses back. It's part of the licensing agreement you agreed to when you downloaded and installed the software after purchase. So you are advised to buy a new key every 2 years and transfer the licenses. Or you can buy the Protection Plan which gives you some limited insurance. But either way, you're still going to have to get a spare Vienna key.
