    Hi everyone,

    I might need a quick purchase advise for my next VSL String product. ;-)
    I am trying to achieve less of a Classical Music or Film Scoring type of sound but more of an intimate 60’s Motown style string sound. I already own the SYNCHRON-ized Chamber Strings (and SPECIAL EDITION V.1).

    What I still miss so far is the option for more Vibrato - I would love to add strong or progressive vibrato techniques to my arrangements.
    It seems the Dimension Strings 01 but also the Solo Strings offer more variation here for example. But as I don't need lots of detailed short note variations for complex orchestral arrangements but just more expressive vibrato articulation – which VSL library could be a suitable extension?

    Hi

    Most of VSL libraries have progressive vibrato techniques. Usually, you have to use the SlotX fader. But some libraries have their own progressive vibrato patches like Solo Strings I. VI Chamber Strings I have that matrix called "espressivo" with a very expressive vibrato for legato and sustain patches. VI Appassionata Strings I have regular, progressive and strong vibrato for the legato articulations. Synchron Strings I have regular and lyrical vibrato for the legato patches. The cantabile patches also have light and strong vibrato. And with Dimension Strings, you can also crossfade between no vibrato and regular vibrato. There is also this espressivo patch with progressive vibrato. Hope it helps.

    I would try Synchron Strings I.  Great, easy control over the vibrato, and lots of vibrato options:

    • no vib
    • regular vib
    • lyrical vib
    • cantabile regular vib
    • cantabile lyrical vib

    Now count the velocity layers between each (which also gives slightly different vibratos depending on the dynamic):

    • No vib & reg vib = 8 velocity layers
    • lyrical vib = 5 velocity layers
    • cantabile reg & lyrical = 2 velocity layers

     

    That's dozens and dozens of possible combinations to crossfade between!
