  • Installing on SSD

Hi folks, I know Synchron and Dimension productions should be installed on a SSD but I’m wondering if there’s any advantage to installing other software like VI Pro, VEP7, MIR, etc., on a SSD. Will it run any faster? Thanks, Mike

  • An SSD will greatly improve load times over a spinning disk. Once the VSL application is loaded, the performance is mainly dependent upon CPU, memory, disk I/O of your sample library and overall real-time audio performance of the system, and less about whether the application is installed on an SSD or spinning disk. But with the said, you'll still notice a big difference in load times and responsiveness when loading the plugin, sessions, project files, etc.

Is your Windows 10 Operating System installed on an SSD? If not, it is one of the best upgrades you can make for your computer and it will really help with load times of all applications and a general sense that things are running much faster/smoother.

I'm always experimenting with my systems to make them run better. Sometimes I don't notice much practical difference from CPU upgrades or addition of RAM. But Disk I/O improvements like going from a 5K/7K spinning disk to an SSD (or better yet, a RAID) ALWAYS seems to make a huge impact on performance that is immediately noticeable.
