Hi Everybody

Can someone please tell me If more than one Preset can be loaded in a Single Instance of VIPro on 1 Computer ???

I select the Preset Category and drag a specific Preset to the Matrix.  When I try to add another Preset, it replaces the first one.

I'm thinking only one preset is permitted because it establishes the Global Settings

But how does one choose which Preset to use for a  full orchestra ???

I'm using VIPro Version 2.5  on an iMac Pro        (Vienna Ensemble Pro 7 )

Thanks For Any Assistance

Dave

I don't believe this possible. The only reason I add "believe" is because I am not an official source of information.

You CAN create custom presets, and you can drag any matrix or patch setup you want into it.

sy Woods, Brass, Perc I, Str Pro, Elite Str, Prime
syz Woods, Perc, Solo Str, Chamber Str, App Str, Harps, Choir
syz Dim Brass, Dim Strings

Studio One 6, Dorico 5, Cubase 12
VE Pro, MIR Pro 3D. Vienna Suite Pro

Windows 10, i5-9600K, 64GB

Thank You For Your Response, DaddyO

With your experience, I'm content to rely on your confirming  "belief"

Also thank you for the additional Information about custom presets ... I never thought about that, and it could be quite helpful

DaddyO is correct. One may define a Preset as an entire collection of matrices. Loading a new Preset will overwrite the existing collection.

To rephrase your question, is it possible to merge presets in a single VI Pro? And the answer is no. You can save matrices and load them one on top of the other, but not presets.

Customizing a full orchestra for one VI Pro preset is possible, strictly speaking, But to my knowledge, one VI Pro instance can only receive one channel. That would be tough to coordinate a playback. Again, possible but nowhere near optimal.

Vienna Ensemble Pro exists to solve this very issue. It can drive a bunch of VI Pro's (each with their own preset) on different channels.

Thank You, Plowman, For Your Detailed Explanation

I never understood the purpose of Presets, and have never used them.

Your definition of a Preset, as an entire collection of Matrices is very helpful to my understanding.

Also, your statement that VEP  "can drive a bunch of VI Pro's (each with their own preset) on different channels. " will likely be very useful to my future endeavors

Thanks For Your Time And Insights, Plowman

Cool. If you intend to orchestrate with a DAW, VE Pro is inevitable. But the good news is that VI Pro is the building block, and everything learned on that will carry over to the larger program.

Here's the VI to VEP hierarchy:

A patch holds samples.

A slot holds a patch.

A cell holds slots.

A matrix holds cells.

A preset holds matrices.

And to continue in Vienna Ensemble Pro:

A channel set holds a preset.

An instance holds channel sets. (saved as .vecs)

A server project holds instances. (saved as .vesp)

Thanks, Plowman ... That is one of the most succinct, structured technical explanations I have ever encountered on the Internet ... Again thank you for your insights and assistance

Dave

PS I Have Always Used VEP7 ... I only recently began fiddling around with VI Instruments (no pun intended, especially on this website)
