  • Preferred strategy to setup EW Hollywood Orchestra?

    Hi!

    I was wondering how you guys prefer to setup EastWest Hollywood Orchestra with VEP7? Do you still create a separate instance per orchestral section? Or do you create only one instance and add as many OPUS Player channels as needed?

    Theoretically, since the OPUS Player is multi-timbral, one Player is enough for an orchestral group (given the orchestra is not too large and keyswitches are used). If I use separate instances for each orchestra group, then only one OPUS player per instance channel would be present – and that looks "strange".

    Not sure if I express myself clearly enough... however, would be great if you could share your preferred setup strategy setting up EW Hollywood!

    Thanks!

  • I have each section of the orchestra in a different instance of VEP (so Strings, Woodwinds, etc. are separated)
    The "Strings" server instance would be:

    - Violin 1 -> 1x OPUS (Midi port 1)
    - Violin 2 -> 1x OPUS (Midi port 2)
    - Viola -> 1x OPUS etc (Midi port 3)
    etc. with articulations on separate midi channels (no keyswitches) So my approach is reasonably modular. Also helped me with the audio outputs and keeping everything easy to find back. (since I run 84 channels of audio for the OPUS Strings).

    With keyswitches and not having crazy audio output demands, you can probably be fine with one instance per strings/woodwinds/brass. I hope that makes sense.

  • Thank you very much for your feedback! Any chance you could provide a screenshot?

  • For best performance, apparently have 1 instance per CPU core is optimal. Or 1 per 2 cores if you have a 16 core CPU.

    Sure, I have it set up like in this screenshot .

    It's running on a 8c/16t (Ryzen 5700G) CPU so I set it to 4 threads per server instance. I haven't really experimented with those settings to much. My only bottleneck at this point is the network infrastructure, I haven't gotten around to setting up a dedicated network. So right now every time a system on the network backups to the NAS the network is saturated causing some artifacts in the sound. But it seems to be chugging along just fine.
