    I own a Dual G4 and a G4/1.33 Ghz PowerBook.

    Could the Dual act as a node in Logic Pro? And will VI work?

    Apple recommendes G5 and above for node use though a lot of people have success with G4's

    Not sure that external plug-ins will work on a node - it is to do with the sample load/streaming - for example EXS 24 will not node though eq plug-ins and the other Logic plugs should. Haven't tried VI's as a node though I not at all sure they would work. Maybe VSL have tested?

    I tried it on yesterday, it works.

    The Dual G4, connected to the Powerbook via built-in Ethernet, ran smoothly as a Logic node. I suppose the viceversa (the PB acting as node) is possible too.

    Then I loaded the VSL samples from the Dual G4 HD (where they are stored) into the EXS running on the Powerbook. I did not try VI, yet, but I suppose it should also work equally fine.

    But now I would like to run Logic on the Dual G4 and control it remotely from the Powerbook. Can I achieve this?

    Nodes - I've seen the icon in my applications folder, but never really understood what they are. From reading these posts, it looks like a way of utilising the power of a second computer's processor to run a program (like Logic) on the main one. Is that roght? Is it difficult to set-up?

    Please bear in mind I'm a really bad at understanding terminology. I can get my programs to do what I want, but I do it more by visual leads than conceptual realisation, if that even makes sense! [:D]

    Perhaps someone would be kind enough to offer a simpleton's introduction to Nodes?

    I think you know this, but Logic Node is only for *Logic processing plug-ins* (and possibly some of the instrument plug-ins like the Logic synths) - it won't do anything for any third-party plug-ins, and it won't stream samples or use the remote computer's RAM for samples.

    You still need an audio interface for that.

    Well, I was able to use Logic Node and Midi Network as well.

    Very nice.

    But a "master-slave" home network requires anyway two copies of Logic (i.e. two XSKey...).

    I chose a third solution.

    On this morning I bought a 150 EUR USB audio card (M-Audio Audiophile, very suitable for home recording) which will be connected to the PowerBook.

    The Dual G4 will then act as a Logic node for boosting PowerBook processing power, and VSL samples will remain stored on the G4 hard disk or, in a near future, on a 250 Gb not-very-expensive (170 EUR) Firewire HD.

    It should work...
