  • VSL to Vinyl ... stay with me here :P

How about this as an idea.

I know it's kinda crazy but then why not as a novelty. I'm soon to be finishing my second album, (And first VSL album), and I'm thinking of proudcing it myself, seeing as I can't seem to get an publishers to say yes. All they do is say, "Mmm yes .. I really like it .. but!!", and I'm like "BUT WHAT?".

You know how it is. Anyways, so looking into CD production I came accros RPM, a London based compnay with a solid reputation for CD production. And they also do Vinyl.

So I thought, Hmm. Interesting. I wonder what my Compositions would sound like off an LP record. I'm sure we're all aware of the sound quality difference. Obviously I realize that it's down to how it's sourced and everything, but it may just give that, vinyl/analogue edge to my recordings.

I think it's only really something I'd do as a novelty, but I like the sound that Vinyl gives .. pops and all, and wonder if that would be rather a neat little thing to offer for sale on my website.

Yeah I know. How cares anyways, I'm lucky if I see 40 hits a day on my site. And most of that comes from you lot looking up Kai's AT .. [:D] So I guess if it's money wasted .. at least I'll have a really nice Record of my VSL stuff. I would so love to actually sell my stuff and make a living out of it, but more and more I get convinced that no-one will actually give a s**t! about new classical .. and those that do,... well they all seem reticent to publish my music. Usually on the basis that my music lacks a market big enough .. probably true, I don't know. No one ever asks people if they like New classical stuff, based on Romantic/fantasy stuff [[:P]].

Anyways, Vinyl Releases for music. A bit retro I'll admit, but it could be cool. I think if I get my own publishing company set up (Which I've nearly done .. 'Moonsinger Music LTD"), I may just offer Vinyl versions for the eccentric types.

Anyways, back to mixing .. I've got 6 weeks to get 11 VSL tracks pre-mixed .. oh the humanity [[:P]]

And it's free: got it myself and it's pretty good.

Actually I prefer 78 rpm records myself and a very good friend buys lots of cylinders (at VAST expense [[[:P]]] [[[:P]]] [[[:P]]]).

I hate to break the news to you, but this actually is pretty old school. Technology of yesterday, if you will.

Now, if you want to know what's really hip, where the leading edge is and what will propel us into the next decade, that is, if we manage to embrace this stunning new concept, look here:

  • Nice .. I'm downloading the program now.

I thing that a true vinyl release of our work would just be a really cute way to present it. I admit it's going backwards but still. I reckon that most of the people who listen to orchestral works have all got record players.

Naw, I got rid of my record player, which also had a built-in 8 track [[:|]], in 2003. I even had one of those cassette-to-8-track adapters for it! Truly the pinnacle of high-fidelity. [8-)]

...I think I still have a Bee Gees 8-track cassette somewhere in the basement. [:O]ops:
