  • SYNCROSOFT license nightmare - help!!

    hey guys

this morning was having various headaches trying to get VSL to load up sounds, so just downloaded and installed latest syncrosoft license control centre.

it now tells me (in the control centre) that it has found my usb device (dongle), but that no licenses have been found. WTF?

anyone got any ideas, as am needing to get to work!

    thanks

    paul

    P.S. Apple mac G5 dual 2.5, 6 gigs of Ram, OS 10.4.5

  • hi paul,

have you tried to restart your computer after installing the new license control center?

    best, marnix

  • paul, have you rebooted the machine after the update? and/or did you have any ViennaInstrument open when updating the LCC?
because OSX keeps executable code in RAM if a process is still running, updating the underlying program might lead to unexpected behaviour - this is why i always recommend to reboot _before_ and _after_ an update ... not very intuitive, i know ...
    christian

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • yep.

and reinstalled license centre again. and restarted again.

and took out everything in directory manager and put them back in. the key just isn't seeing any licenses with the new manager. eek!

  • hehe, marnix is too fast ... paul, do you say the license control center is seeing the key but does not display any lines for licenses?
    christian

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • my typing is too slow [:D]

yep - the control centre sees the key, but it says that there are no licenses on it. (obviously, there should be about 20 - the whole cube and extended editions)

  • UPDATE:

ok, i've managed to get the licenses to show up in the syncrosoft control centre.

however, i now cannot load up any of the VSI in Digital Performer (4.61).
It comes up with the error when loading up the VSI - there has been a problem with your USB devie. please try connecting to a different port. (the red light is on on the dongle.) i press ok. It then tells me it can't find the license for violas, or whatever. so i try to connect to a different port. red light comes on again, but after retsrtaing same error .

    any ideas?

  • Hi Paul,

Hmm, which version of the Vienna Instruments software do you use?

Please also try to launch the Vienna Instruments as standalone - does that make a difference?

    Best, Marnix

  • Are you running your VI's in a seperate user account. What I mean is do you have an admin account, and an everyday user account that you use Digital performer in. Only this can cause big problems cos the VI installs into your root directories and I encountered this very problem .. not an error with the dongle .. but an error trying to get the VI's to do anything.

    Just an idea, worth checking.

  • ahh thanks for mentioning that, hetoreyn - i almost forgot .... we also noticed: installing LCC and/or ViennaInstruments with one account and trying to use it with another (even if this user is also administrator) brought up strange messages.
simply re-installing again under the second account solved it - must have been a sort of permission issue.

  • nope. just the one account. have repaired permissions, etc. still no joy.

must have restarted computer about 30 times now. exactoly the same. as soon as i've opened up DP and try to launch an instance of VSI, i get these license error messages, so can't get any instances open.

  • Hi Paul,

Do you use the latest version of the Vienna Instruments software?

Does it make a difference if you launch the Vienna Instruments as standalone?

    Best, Marnix

  • hey marnix.

    yep, latest version of software.

standalone, nope no difference. still same license problems.

  • anyone?

struggling to do any work here!! [8-)]

  • Hi Paul,

Ok, obviously one or more files involved are corrupted for some reason.

This is why I´d like to ask you to go through the whole following routine one last time step by step, in order to rule things out.

    1. Please find and erase the License Control Center, the Vienna Instruments Directory Manager, the Vienna Instruments Library Installer and the Vienna Instruments Standalone from your Applications folder, as well as ViennaInstruments.component and ViennaInstrument.vst from Library/Audio/Plug-ins. To be sure everything is really wiped out clean, please also delete the following receipts:
    /Library/Receipts/LCC.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/NOS.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/POS.pkg
    2. Empty Trash and restart your computer.
    3. Then please download once more "Vienna Instruments Software Installer OS X PPC 1.06b (AU & VST Version)" from http://www.vsl.co.at/en-us/68/375/239.vsl and License Control Center v.5.0.8.1 from http://www.syncrosoft.com/
    4. Run both installers and restart your computer.
    5. Now please launch License Control Center to see if all your licenses show up.
    6. If they do, please launch Vienna Instruments Directory Manager and add only one folder from your Vienna Instruments collection, say the Violas, and be sure a Custom Matrix Folder is properly set.
    7. Quit Directory Manager and launch Vienna Instruments standalone.
    8. If the Violas show up in Vienna Instruments, please quit the application and keep adding the folders in Directory Manager one by one, always quitting before you launch Vienna Instruments to check if they show - please remember that Directory Manager and Vienna Instruments are not allowed to run at the same time!!

If your licenses still do not show in Vienna Instruments, we will have to involve Syncrosoft in order to solve the problem, because we do not have access of any sort to their licensing procedure.

If this turns out to be necessary, I´ll have to ask you to send me two files.
First I will need your System Profile - please select "About this Mac" from your Apple Menu and click on "More Info..." to open the System Profiler. When everything is loaded, please save the profile through File/Save as... - it contains necessary information about your setup for troubleshooting.
Next please launch License Control Center. Under Help/Support/ in the main menu, please select "Save support file..." to store the file.
Please zip or stuff the two files and send them to m.veenenbos@vsl.co.at.

Please accept my apologies for all this hassle, we are trying to solve your problem as fast as possible!!

    Best, Marnix

  • Hi Paul,

    Any improvement to your situation?

    Best, Marnix

  • hey marnix.

nope none. [:'(] it's a total nightmare and am now in middle of another project for 3 weeks, so i've had to go and buy another sample library to keep me going, which is pretty annoying, considering how much i've paid for the entire VSI collection. I know you guys are doing your best, but i've followed your instructions down to a tee - this syncrosoft system is getting beyond a joke.

no time to try and get it back up and running again now til the end of this soundtrack. thanks or your help though.

Have you tried reinstalling your OS? I'm on PC and was having lots of weird issues with every little step from install to registering to the DM and LCC...It just went on and on. I finally decided to blow away WinXP and start from scratch.

Its been running like a dream ever since (well, a whole 2 days so far).

To my amazment it even launches faster as well.

Looks like you just started a project so its not good timing for this but if you get around to it aferwards it might do the trick.

    Good luck!
