1.[SOLVED] Ensamble Pro 5 and VI Pro from old project 4/11/2014 11:39:06 AM

Thanks for helping out.

I thought I had the newest VI Pro, but it was 2.4.12xxx not 2.4.13135.

Now it works and the VI instances has been converted to VI Pro inside VE Pro.

Just curious, the output is a lot hotter to the point where it peaks. Is this normal?
Thank you for all the help.

Here is the project I finally got working. Please have a listen and thanks again.

2.[SOLVED] Ensamble Pro 5 and VI Pro from old project 4/10/2014 12:40:36 PM

Hi, Paul

Thanks for helping. Installing VI actually worked in loading the patches correctly. However, when I convert the metaframe and click on a instrument i get the following error:

(For future reference if/when the image is gone: "Cannot load plugin state saved by the newer version of VIPro).

Then when I play the project from Cubase I get the the flashing yellow icon next to Preserve with the option "Load incoming data". That loads the regular VI instances. It is a lot of work converting the metaframe manually, but at least now I know what patches to use etc.

Fred

3.[SOLVED] Ensamble Pro 5 and VI Pro from old project 4/9/2014 10:06:14 AM

I may have misunderstood what you asked about. I have installed VE Pro 5 and VI Pro, but not VI (the old one) any longer.

I thought that VE Pro would load the old VI as new VI Pro instances, but that is not the case?

Is it possible to convert the project to use VI Pro  some how? Thank you

4.[SOLVED] Ensamble Pro 5 and VI Pro from old project 4/6/2014 7:22:05 PM

Hi, Paul

Yes, I have installed both VE Pro 5 and VI Pro separately.

I start the VEPro server and then load the cubase project. I navigate to VEpro client and connect to a new instance. All the instruments are there, with correct names, however, they are blank and I cannot get the vienna instrument panel to show. Double clicking on them does not open a VI panel. If I add a new VI Pro instrument in the same VEPro window everything works for it. So it seem to be an issue with the migration from an older version of VEPro to VEPro 5.

Please help. I cannot manually add the patches, because I don't recall which were used and there is a lot of automation going on.

Regards

Fred

5.[SOLVED] Ensamble Pro 5 and VI Pro from old project 8/7/2013 4:14:18 PM

Hi,

I have been away for a while and just upgraded my software.

When loading my old ensamble 4 projects with VI (not pro) projects with the now upgraded software

an instance is created and all the channels appear. However, there is no VI data nor is it possible to activate any of the channels.

MIDI is played through just fine, but they are dummy tracks. What can I do?

Thanks

Fred

6.Is Kontakt 4 available as a VST in Vienna Ensemble Pro 11/25/2010 1:15:52 AM

Are VST to be supported? I usually skip installing AU and RTAS. Cubase uses VST...

7.How good is Special Edition for cinematic percussion scores? 5/1/2010 10:56:17 AM

Hi,

I have been away from scoring "cinematic" music to picture (been doing, pop, indie, electronica etc).

How good is SE Extended for doing percussion scores like trailer music and how does it compare to storm drums, drums of war, true strike etc?

Does anyone of you care to share a percussion score/track using only SE Extended?

Thanks you!

8.My first 'test-run' composition using the Soprano Choir. (And Appassionatas) 4/29/2010 9:54:28 PM

Really nice, but I find the mix to be a bit uneven.

Have you tried lowering the clockenspiel(?) a bit?

When the choir enters, it sounded like something james horner could have written. I had images from avatar flashing in my mind, hehe.

Great job!

9.Performance SSD storage gone wild! 4/28/2010 11:13:27 AM

Hi, Cyril

No, I have not tried it. I just received a hardware raid controller. Using 4x7200 disks in 0+1 for both a performance boost in general, but mostly for redundancy.

However, I am thinking of getting one of the "low end" models which are tagged around $900. 256GB should be enough for OSX + VISe.

Having 600MB sequential should be more than enough.

As far as I know the buffer size used to load VSL are simply too small. I'd love for this to be changed.

http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/solid-state-drives/pci-express/z-drive-r2/ocz-z-drive-r2-p88-pci-express-ssd.html

Just wanted you to be aware of this product line of pretty much super fast SSD pci-e drives.

The non R2 256GB edition goes for around $1000. Haven't bother checking out the other prices...!

The top models have quite impressive specifications

  • Read: Up to 1.4GB/s
  • Write: Up to 1.4GB/s
  • Sustained Write: Up to 950 MB/s

Nice :)

12.VE Pro 64 bit plugins missing 11/30/2009 12:25:54 AM

Hm, that's a shame. My bad! The plugins are all 32 bit.

13.VE Pro 64 bit plugins missing 11/29/2009 2:56:01 PM

Hi,

Using VSTs I cant use any plugins with the 64 bit VE Pro application. They are not showing up.

All works just fine in the 32 bit version.

How do you route between VE Pro and cubase? Do you create group busses inside VE Pro? I can't seem to figure out how to access the other busses (other than the NET1/NET2 bus which is automaticly routed to the instrument track).

And there's your mistake. You shouldn't touch Instrument tracks with a barge pole. Use the VSTi rack (F11) and MIDI tracks. In that way you can use all your MIDI tracks per instance and also use loads of VSTi Outputs for  your audio.

I do use VSTi. The instrument track I am refering to is the output from VE Pro. How do you configure several VSTi outputs?

16.VE Pro 64 (mac) plugins missing 11/28/2009 4:37:50 PM

Hi,

Do I have to tell VE Pro 64bit where the plugins are? It only find Apple's plugins.

It works just fine in the 32bit version.

Thanks!

Fred

Indeed it is, thank you.

I have never thought about mixing down to audio before actually mixing (processing). But that would probably be a good idea, yes.

I do not have altiverb, so I have no way of placing each instrument on a stage or so. But I believe I will buy it soon. It sounds awesome.

Do you pan much in VE Pro?

Sorry for the 20 questions!

And thanks again:)

18.Cubase users 11/28/2009 1:53:59 PM

Hi, DG, thanks for replying!

Nuendo looks great, I am really longing for the "Edit mode" function for video, but the upgrade is too expensive atm.

I was having problems using 30 VI instances, as standalone instrument tracks, without VE. The ASIO driver would go to 100% although Activity Monitor showed about 50% dived on all cores.

Thanks again!

Fred

19.Cubase users 11/28/2009 1:33:30 AM

Hi,

I am wondering how cubase users use vienna?

Do you use VE Pro? If so, how many instruments per VE instance do you use?

How do you apply reverberation?

Thanks

Fred

You're right, not too original, but I liked it alot! Great feel to it :)

21.Books on orchestration 11/27/2009 8:32:27 PM

Thanks, matteo. I have heard others recommend it. I think I'll go for it! However, I was only able to find the paperback. The CD version was audiobook (that's what i said). I guess I have to look some more

22.Altiverb Regular vs Altiverb XL 11/27/2009 3:51:06 PM

Hi,

Which version do you use? I would like to have 5.1 support, but then again I do not need it everyday.

Love to here some input on this!

23.Books on orchestration 11/27/2009 12:06:36 PM

Hi,

I have been playing the trombone for 14 years, but I have never been specially good with the theory behind the notes.

(Only what positions each note translates into).

Thanks!

24.Serious performance issues 11/27/2009 7:21:08 AM

Hi Maya,

Thanks for your reply!

Yes, I do get this pops/crackles using the built-in driver as well. However, it allows me to go up to 2048 samples, which then removes all artifacts. I will convert the project to VE Pro and see if that helps!

Thanks again,

Fred
