1.Vienna Ensemble PRO 5/11/2009 11:33:12 PM

i am just wondering what the requirements for VE Pro will be for OSX.

Why I ask is that I would like to use it on my G5 PowerMac running OSX10.4 (Tiger)... why you ask? Well I want to run my synth plugins from there (and, to be specific my Neuron VS plugin which is PPC/Tiger compliant only). Will this be possible?

My other option would be to use a PC with XP, but then the question is, would VE Pro on that platform support a plugin which was only VST 2.1 compliant?

OK, thanks Herb.

I have just done that.

Jaytee,

did you get your SE Plus (Standard) yet? Mine arrived yesterday, so I think Time+SPace sent out the back ordered items on Monday.

A quick question to the Vienna guys on the Extended library license. I registered the SE Plus Standard library yesterday, so will you be

sending out the code for the Extended library after the 15th?

(I'm not in any rush but just want to make sure I don't miss anything!)

4.Buying a new Mac Pro: 4-core "Nehalem" or 8-core "Harpertown"? 3/30/2009 1:47:28 PM

Interestingly, it is being reported that the 4-Core 'Nehalem' MacPros will support 4GB modules, so bringing the prospect of 12GB(three channel) and 16GB (dual channel) memory.

I will be looking for a new machine to primarily run Logic + VSL in a few months time, and could in no circumstance justify or afford the more expensive 8-core MacPro, but the 4-Core at 2.93Ghz with initially 6 or 8GB is feasible. My requirements will be the ability to run the full Special Edition with Vienna Suite and eventually full MIR (hopefully it will be reasonably affordable).

Is this a realistic proposition?

5.Re: Laptop to run VI 11/10/2007 9:50:03 AM
How about with one of the newer MacBook Pros (or iMac) with 4GB memory?

Would this be sufficient to run, say, the full Special Edition with Ensemble, without clicks and pops?
6.Macbook Pro - how many instances of Vienna Instruments? 10/15/2007 11:49:25 AM

This is something I have been considering too (either a fully loaded 17" Macbook Pro or a 24" iMac) for running VI-Se.

The other consideration is with running VI-Se is there any rough estimation I could do to calculate how many instances

of Altiverb or other effects I could run alongside (I would obviously be running samples from an Lacie fw800 raid drive).

7.SPECIAL EDITION - product page online 3/6/2007 10:40:38 PM
Wow, as soon as the discount can be applied I'm ordering. At this price I can understand that there would be no further upgrade discounts to full libraries. But this is a great start.

Christian,

when will this be released (Frankfurt time?).

I have many of the Horizon series (Opus1&2, Vienna Harps, FX Percussion, Concert Guitar, Overdrive, Glass & Stones etc), so I'm quite keen to see what discount I'll be able to get.

Also, with the inclusion of the Bosendorfer, Konzerthaus Organ and Harpsichord, would I be able to upgrade with discount to the full libraries (from Special Edition)?

Is there anything you can say on the resources required to run the VSE (ie would I be able to able to run it within logic on my Macbook Pro?).

As you can tell, like Hetoreyn, I'm very excited about this product as a way into the Vienna Instruments.
9.Vienna Special Edition? 3/3/2007 5:56:12 PM
Hi

I just got the latest 2007 catalog, and it lists a new Vienna Special Edition library, but I can't see anything on the website. Any news on this?

Also I saw there is a Special Keyboards too (nice, I was hoping that a Harpsichord library would be released).
10.So is MIR just an Intel Altiverb with a different name? 8/22/2005 1:48:28 PM
Dietz

no problem, I understand. I'll be interested to see exactly how it is achieved.
11.So is MIR just an Intel Altiverb with a different name? 8/22/2005 11:37:08 AM
CM,

you mentioned way back in this thread that other additional DSPs had been considered for MIR. I had hoped that it would be available to run on the Powercore platform (I currently use a firewire powercore alonside Logic). Using such a universally available crossplatform device seems logical to me...or am I way off here on the requirements of MIR?
12.Will a Powerbook perform well enough? 5/9/2005 3:34:58 PM

i don'y know for the cpu but you could use the "freeze" fonction

Smile I rather expect that 'freeze' will be my friend on such a system, however it's always good to have an idea of how useful it will be without resorting to freezing tracks.
13.Will a Powerbook perform well enough? 5/9/2005 3:15:46 PM
Hi

Currently I am running my G5 Powermac (dual 1.8Ghz, 4GB memory) for Logic Pro + VSL Horizon (Opus1, Guitar, Glass + Stones, Overdrive) and a Powercore Firewire.

Due to my circumstance of having to live away during the week, I'm planning on getting a Powerbook 15" + Powercore Compact and Lacie usb2/Firewire portable drive (either 60 or 80GB for Horizon sample storage). I'm also going to get at least Opus 2 and FX percussion too.

Has anyone got experience with a powerbook (1.5 or 1.67Ghz) and VSL?

Will it have enough grunt to be usable for some fairly full arrangements?

Any insights welcome.

JohnM
14.Recorders please 11/22/2004 10:35:35 AM
A recorders Horizon series would be a library I'd buy without hesitation. Even better with those other medieval wind instruments (a medieval string instruments library would also be welcome).
15.VSL Group buy in the future? 11/21/2004 10:53:15 PM
Another vote for Chamber Strings here.
16.Need some advice on drive layout.... 5/26/2004 11:55:18 PM
This is a bit of a plea for help to the Mac gurus here, as even after reading many posts, I'm still not sure what the best route is!

With the prospect of a 3 day weekend ahead, Iwill use the time to rebuild my Mac (dual 1.Cool G5 and reinstall all software. Currently I have a 74Gb Raptor as my boot drive for music, and the original 160gb seagate to boot for general tasks.

I have thought that it may be a good idea to get a Lacie BigDisk Extreme, as these appear to contain two drives on a firewire800 connection. If I had Logic, my softsynths/effects and the audio tracks on one of these drives and my samples on another, would this provide the best performance, or should I use an internal drive for either the audio tracks or my samples?

The idea of using an external drive has advantages, as I plan to get a Powerbook later this year, so I can work 'on the road', so to speak.

I should also point out that I am using a Yamaha 01/X mLan mixer and a TC Powercore firewire for effects. Would these devices impact on streaming performance off a firewire800 drive.

I do understand that I may just have to 'suck it and see' and work through the many possible combinations to find the answer, but any clues would be welcome.
17.How soon is "soon" ? (new products) 5/26/2004 11:32:08 PM
It's great to see these new libraries are coming. I am especially looking forward to hearing demos & details of the Chamber Strings.

Well just to prove that I always want more, one future library I hope VSL is working on would be Recorders. This family of instruments seems to be grossly under represented in sample libraries generally.

( am I the only one that would like to see this? or has everyone else been put off by those lessons at school, leading to a life long hatred of the instrument. )
18.MIR Project ... free for PRO users ? 7/15/2003 6:07:13 AM
Hi all,

Dietz mentioned the use of some dedicated hardware. Could the TC Powercore be a potential host for the MIR engine or, perhaps an option in the same way that TC have a native VST version of their surround reverb and a version for the powercore. This would allow the 'native' version to do lower quality 'preview' + high quality off-line rendering, but powercore allow full quality realtime use.
