1.Some gripes about MIR Pro 3D 2/1/2023 1:32:30 PM

Hi!

Thank you for that video! I can see at least one thing: The Cello Player 5 is missing a "P". I is saying Dimension Player 5 Solo Orchestra. But should be saying Dimension Player P5 Solo Orchestra.

For the Violins, the role id looks indetical, but I suspect that maybe there is a wrong space character somewhere.

Please try to re-assign that role (you can do the same for the cello), by dragging the role from the left to this specific instrument in the list on the right.

An easier way to assign roles inside a venue preset to your instruments would be to click on the arrow down symbol next to the grey role. There you can also select (and especially search) the role you want to assign.

P.S.:

I also spotted the mistake for the Violins. Somehow the role you want to assign to is not called "11 Dimension Violin P8 solo Orchestra I" but "11 Dimension Violin P8 solo Orchestra  I".
Note the additional space between Orchestra and the I.

Hi!

I will try to answer your questions:

The role presets are saved within a venue preset. They have to be because the instrument settings are really linked to the venue settings. When the role preset is grey it means that the current venue preset (basically, a "master preset") does not contain the role. It can however be saved then in the current preset by pressing the little floppy disk icon next to it.

It means that the current settings in the instrument differ from the chosen role preset. You can then (if the venue preset is not read-only) save it (and overwrite your settings) or just press the apply button. Then the star should go away (especially if you have everything checked in the "Apply Role Presets" section).

The same goes for venue presets.

3.Bug Report on MIR Pro 3D's Latest Update 11/13/2022 8:00:30 PM

Hi Antonio!

Sorry for the confusion. Allow me to clarify and be more specific:

There is a fundamental difference between raw ambisonics output and the classical formats.

For the latter, MIR takes over all of the processing and decoding into different capsule formats, microphone positions and so forth. What you also get is a submixer that allows you to up/down mix into your actual channel configuration. This submixer can be found in on the right side of the Channel Configuration Editor. Especially if you have more capsules than available channels, this step is absolutely necessary. And also makes perfect sense in a lot of circumstances.

Now the Raw Ambisonics Output is different:

Here, the user has to do all of the ambisonics processing on her own. You don't get any decoding into say classical stereo or immersive formats. This is why you absolutely need to set up MIR's output channel count so it has at least:

- 4 channels for 1st order ambisonics

- 9 channels for 2nd order ambisonics

- 16 channels for 3rd order ambisonics

Those channels have to be available, because you as a user have to have a proper ambisonics decoder plug-in after MIR. And this plug-in needs all of the channels of the respective Ambisonics order to make sense of the signal. So adding any form of down mixing in MIR's own processing chain would not work (in case of Raw Ambisonics output)

Quote:

As a side note, it seems entirely arbitrary to say that the minimum is 4 channels, especially given that it worked in every version before.

You are right that this wouldn't make any sense and seems very confusing. But I have to admit that part of the Raw Ambisonics processing chain was broken in previous versions of MIR: The part that handles the dry signal processing. It is for example responsible for handling instrument or microphone rotation. It was broken for previous versions so your dry signal would not be processed at all. It wouldn't crash however ... but ... it also wouldn't work correctly.

Quote:

the bug also applies to multi-channel output tracks

I would expect the following for the current version: For an immersive format (say: 5.1.4) with a high enough channel count, order 1 and order 2 would not crash (because there, MIR can output 10 channels and it only needs 4/9). But third order (which requires 16) would crash. However, I would recommend to add MIR to a channel with the proper ambisonics configuration.

I hope this background info is useful and not too confusing :)

All the best and thank you again for pointing me to this bug!

Konrad

4.Bug Report on MIR Pro 3D's Latest Update 11/13/2022 9:03:59 AM

Thank you very much for the report!

Could it be that you are trying to set an ambisonics configuration (minimum channel count would be 4) to a channel with stereo configuration? This would explain why it missed our attention. This configuration doesn't make sense.

I am adding safeties for existing sessions with this wrong config and will make it impossible to choose an ambisonics configuration if the host channel's channel count is not enough.

In the meantime if you need to use raw ambisonics, please make sure to add the mir plug-in to a channel strip with enough output channels.

Best,

Konrad

5.FREE UPDATE: Great Rieger Organ OUT NOW! 6/14/2021 11:47:11 AM

We're not really bound to realism ;) You can expect an update enabling key velocity.

That was a real help because I could set up what were effectively different combinations for different velocity zones. Maybe with the new combination facility it won't be needed, though.

Glad to be of help. Konzerthaus Organ was the first instrument I bought vom VSL, and soon after that Vienna Instruments Pro, even before I was sure that it can give me key velocity.

However, I had to make a custom preset containing each register and change it there, manually. I'd be happy if presets were XML or JSON so I could edit them as text and diff them.

I am not entirely sure but I think the Vienna Organ Player already features a way of achieving that.

Please watch the attached video for more info

7.FREE UPDATE: Great Rieger Organ OUT NOW! 6/7/2021 6:19:56 AM

About the no-sound Positiv:

This is strange. As you can see from the standalone, if you have set channel 2 to Positiv, you should get sound from it, when you play a channel 2 note on message. However, there are several things that could be worth checking in your setup:

- If you are using multiple instances and you change your MIDI input settings in one of them, the other instances won't have those settings until you restart your host. We actually need to make that clearer in the settings.

- This is someting I ran into myself (In my case it was Logic Pro): When the MIDI channel you set up in your DAW is say channel 3 but you play your keyboard from channel 2, the host will only forward channel 3. So please double check if the player actually receives channel 2 messages. The way you could double check which chanel the player actually receives (I admit, it's clunky):

1. Set all your Werks to different channel inputs

2. Solo the track you have the Positiv on. Now enable/disable a stop on every Werk. The note you Werk you will hear corresponds to the MIDI input the player receives.

- The fact that the keyboard lights up isn't really surprising: It lights up no matter which note ons it gets... And when you play it it actually fires note ons for all channels

I hope this helps! If not, please contact our support in that regard.

Ah... maybe this happens on Windows only? I checked on Mac

10.[SOLVED] Some problems with Synchron Pianos software 5/19/2020 8:52:01 AM

Hi!

Sorry... still no luck. I have made a little video to show what I am doing. Maybe you can tell me if something else happens on your system? Or maybe I am doing something wrong to reproduce?

11.[SOLVED] Some problems with Synchron Pianos software 5/19/2020 6:16:37 AM

Hi!

I fixed all issues except for the Mic loading problem. I cannot seem to reproduce it. Could you provide me with more detailed steps including the Host/DAW?

Thank you!

12.BIG BANG ORCHESTRA: Free orchestra for everyone!! 9/25/2019 6:55:13 AM

Hi Simeon!

This really looks a bit odd. Are you sure you installed all microphone volumes? If you check out the folder, you installed your sample volumes into, you should see a bunch of *.vsynvolume files. If I am right and you accidentally didn't install all mic volumes, you should only see BBO_Patches.vsynvolume (this is where your patches live), BBO_01_Main.vsynvolume and BBO_02_Main-C.vsynolume. And no other BBO vsynvolumes ...

If so, please reinstall your sample content. If not, you should contact our support at to get this sorted out.

14.Please welcome: Steinway & Sons D-274 12/17/2018 10:42:52 AM

Hi David!

This is Konrad, part of the development team. Thank you for paying close attention and reporting right back to us! This is very valuable information :-)

Both things you noticed are actually by design:

Note selection: We changed that from previous versions, so you can only select multiple notes when holding down the Shift modifier. This has the advantage that without holding any modifier you can actually play the on board keyboard. This wasn't possible before actually.

Dynamic Range per note: There are two values that need to be considered there as you already noticed. The global value and the per note value. The value that is applied depends on both settings. Those two values are multipled to yield the final result. So ...

  • If the global value is set to 100% , but the key value is at 50%, the resulting dynamic range will be 50%.
  • If the global value is set to 50% and the per key value is also set to 50%, the resulting value will be 25%.
  • If one of the values is set to 0%, the resulting value will also be 0%

So if you want one note to have a range of 150%, set the global value to 150%, and the note value to 100%. If you want another key to be at 100% again, set that key's value to 66%  (while still having 150% applied to the global setting).

When thinking about it, we should probably make that behaviour more clear in a future update.

I hope this clears things up a bit. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

All the best!

Konrad
