1.Legato samples - confused me 5/12/2012 8:13:27 AM
Hello,

Thank you very much, both!

Martin
2.Legato samples - confused me 5/2/2012 7:30:45 PM
Hello everyone,

I'm little bit cunfused by legato samples and their using. What exactly does this mean?

Lets says Strings. On the viollin, if I'm playing legato notes, I play the same bow - not changing up and down. If I have two slurged notes, I play them with same direct (up/down). How to do this in the library? Shuld I place legato articulation befor the first note? It has no sense, because I can make different articulation on first note too (Sfz, or fp, for example). And legato is about the fact, how to merge two notes. So if I set legato before the first note, I can't set articulation for this first note.

OK, so, shuld I use legato articulation switching before the second note? Will this sound as legato? And there is very same problem with articulation of the second note too. What if this second note shuld be short (staccato), or flagoleto (harm)? How to solve this?

I can make layer of different samples, but if I use this, there is twice more played musicians at the moment, right?

Can you explain this to me, please?

I'm sending concrete piece of music, here:
https://docs.google.com/...NH59lz50nNU05eG5yaDU0b2M

Which articulation (Keyswitch) do you use for these notes? First note it staccato, second is legato, then staccato, legato, staccato? This is first bar. There is repetition 3-times. And the last bar: 4-times legato, sustain, 3-times legato?

All the best,
Martin
3.Opening *.mir file 3/12/2012 1:36:53 PM
Hello Dietz,

But the Vienna MIR is for Windows only. If I own Mac OS X only, I can't install the MIR, right?

Best regards,
Martin
4.Cubase or Logic for MIR Pro 2/17/2012 8:54:43 AM
Hello,

I have been used Logic few years. It's very intuitive and easy of use for start. But if you go deeper, there is quite a lot bugs and restrictions. I don't like the multi-timbral working in the Logic, which is necessary, if you want to use VE Pro and MIR. There is no VST Expression (which is in Cubase) alternative in the Logic. It's very lengthy to switch articulation in the Logic. I made my own Environment (around 1000 transformers). It works quite good, but if I want to evolve it, I hit to the Logic's bug. So, it's not so intuitive, as could be.

My way to the CUbase was very thorny (I don't like the graphics of the Cubase, I have to adjust it a lot), but now, I'm very satisfied with combination Cubase, VE Pro, MIR Pro, and VSL sound libraries. It just works nice!

Best,
Martin

Thi is it! Thanks!
Martin
6.MIR Pro – more than 16 positions in AU plug-in (Logic, Digital Performer) 1/17/2012 9:15:21 PM
Hello Martin,

Can you indicate little bit, how it will work? I have very big problems with synchronization, if I'm using 32 MIDI channels, VEPro Event Input and I/O plug-in. It just doesn't work in sync, now.

And can you tell the release date, please?

Best,

Martin
7."Herb's Teldex Presets" now available for MIR Pro! 1/13/2012 4:26:00 PM
I try to use this Preset on my older composition. It sounds very good! Great work!
I was trying to experiment with the orientation of room. Both has pro and cons, of course. :-)
In the "long" orientation, I feel the long space much more, of course. I feel, the music is in front of me. The sound is little bit darker, I think. But there are limitation in the left-right field. I feel, the players are by the wall very close on sides.
In the "wide" orientation, the sound is more brith for me. I fell, I'm more "in" the music, "in" the orchestra, which plays around me. But there are limitation of lenght of the room. I feel the wall opposite me. The left-right field is much more bigger. This is very nice.
For me, the "long" orientation looks better for "concert-halls" simulation in the studio. The "wide" orientation is better for real studio ("Hollywood") recordings, I think.
In any case, it's amazing!
Regards,
Martin

Is there anyone, who tried these presets, please? How does it sounds?
9.Signal Routing 1/12/2012 9:52:57 PM
Hello,
I'm not sure, maybe I'm off topic now...
I used VEPro 5 in Logic. If I loaded VEPro 5 Stereo, there is only one stereo output from the VEPro 5 (MIR Pro). But if I choosed VEPro 5 16x Stereo, there was 16 stereo outputs from the VEPro 5 (and MIR Pro), so than it's possible to send audio from VEPro channel separately to the Logic. And there is AU plug-in VEPro 5 5.1 too.
Yes, you are right. If I'm using more than 16 channels in the Logic, and I'm using VEPro Input plug-in, these channels are not synchronized. I tried to set delay (with different values) on these tracks. But the delay is changing, so it's not possible to use it this way. Or I don't know, how to solve it. :-)
If I'm using Digital Performer (it's using AU plug-ins too), there is no problem with more channels. It was synchronized, no problem.
Regards
Martin
10."Herb's Teldex Presets" now available for MIR Pro! 1/12/2012 12:43:56 PM
So, I will see it in the linked page, after I buy the Room Pakcs 2, right? Before, I can't see this.
11.Opening *.mir file 1/12/2012 11:42:50 AM
Oh, I see. :-/
Btw: You are right, I tried it in the MIR Pro.
12.Opening *.mir file 1/12/2012 11:12:39 AM
Hello,
How can I open *.mir file, please? If I try this, it is opened in the VEPro 5, but the VEPro writes "Project file is invalid or inaccessible". I would like to try open Adventures on Earth BRASS 9_6_09.mir from your websites.
If I try to File > Open Project menu in the VEPro, and find the *.mir file, it's gray, and it's not possible to select it for opening.
Thanks a lot!
Martin
13.Signal Routing 1/9/2012 8:54:24 PM
You are right, as you are everytine. :-) I find it on page 40.
Thanks,
Martin
14.Signal Routing 1/9/2012 1:54:17 PM
Hello,

I can't invent, how to make mine routing inside the VEPro and MIR Pro.

I need to send signal from any track to two compressors (parallel), and no to the Main Output. The signal is routed from the compressors to the Main Out. But after thecompressor, it should be routed to the Reverb (MIR in this case). The MIR should take it in to the right place.

So you have some idea, how to route this, please?

In the DAW or VEPro (before MIR) I sent it from the channel by the Send to two compressors with Post-Pan. This make panning. From compressors, I routed it to the Reverb. It was easy. But I don't kno, now, how to do this with MIR.

Thanks,
Martin
15.MIR Pro – more than 16 positions in AU plug-in (Logic, Digital Performer) 1/5/2012 5:08:00 PM
You are right. It just works, and it's quite intuitive.
Great work, thanks!
Martin
16.MIR Pro – more than 16 positions in AU plug-in (Logic, Digital Performer) 1/4/2012 9:37:39 PM
Thank you very much!

But. I'm not sure, I can undestand this well.

So if I will use Logic as MIDI sequencer only (no audio, no internal AU instruments, no internal FX), and send all MIDI data to the VEPro, Logic will compute just this. So it shouldn't be so many information, and it should be OK for 1 core. So Logic will display, it work just one core, right? But VEPro will compute all virtual instruments by multithreaded itslef, so the VEPro will use other cores. Although Logic will display it work just 1 core, the computer will use more (maybye all) cores, thanks to the VEPro, right?

So I don't have to be afraid, I'm using just one core, if I have 8 cores, and I don't have to be afraid, my CPU will be slow. Logic will compute just sending MIDI data to the VEPro plug-in.

I think, I have to download DEMO version of MIR Pro, and try it with Logic myself. :-)

17.MIR Pro – more than 16 positions in AU plug-in (Logic, Digital Performer) 1/4/2012 6:37:16 PM
One more question about this: How it will work with CPU cores? One Channel strip is computed on separately core in the Logic. So if I will úsek only one VE5 instance, Logic will compute all instruments on one core only?
If I will use outputs from MIR and VE back to Logic, and make effect processors in the Logic, than the Logic will compute these effects on different cores. But whole VE (and all instruments) will compute on one core only, right?
Or do you have some solution fór this? Is it possible to use more CPU cores this way?
Thanks a lot! I'm very hungry to MIR - more and more. :-)
18.MIR Pro – more than 16 positions in AU plug-in (Logic, Digital Performer) 1/4/2012 4:41:42 PM
I see. I will wait, thanks!
Martin
19.MIR Pro – more than 16 positions in AU plug-in (Logic, Digital Performer) 1/4/2012 1:18:03 PM
Great!

Will the 2nd option work with Login only? Or will this work with any AU hosts (for example Digital Performer too), please?
20.MIR Pro – more than 16 positions in AU plug-in (Logic, Digital Performer) 1/4/2012 10:55:05 AM
Hello,

I didn't buy the MIR Pro yet, but I would like to. But I'm not sure, how to load more than 16 instruments with different positions, from the VE Pro 5 as Audio Unit plug-in (from Logic or Digital Performer). I read this thread about more than 16 channels in the AU plug-ins. I solved this problem the same way – use more VE Pro instances. But I'm not sure, how will this work with the MIR Pro? How can I send MIDI data to all 32 or 50 channels of Herb's Teldex Presets from AU host, please?

Thanks,

Martin
21.Uninstall VE Pro 4 on Mac 1/4/2012 9:50:38 AM
Hello,

How can I uninstall VE Pro 4 from my Mac, please? Is there uninstaller? I need to uninstall it because of the new VE Pro 5 and MIR Pro.

Thanks a lot!

Martin
22.How to test Vienna MIR PRO / MIR PRO 24.... AND all RoomPacks!! 1/3/2012 10:36:40 AM
Hello,

Thank you for the information! I would like to ask, how long can I use the demo version of MIR Pro.

Best,
Martin
23.MIR Pro – how many Activation Codes 12/2/2011 8:34:07 AM
Hello,

I'm very interested in MIR Pro, I wait for it few months, because I'm Mac user only. ;-)

How many activation codes will I get by buing the MIR Pro, please? There are 3 activation codes of Vienna Ensemble Pro. Is this the same with MIR Pro? So can I use 3 machines with the MIR Pro?

Thank you for your great innovative work, VSL!

Martin
24.Appassionata vs Orchestral Strings 9/14/2011 8:19:15 AM
This is very helpful, great, thanks!
The Orchestral Strings sounds the best to me. :-) Better result is to use division technique, for me, than using Appassionate, I think. And I can save the money, and buy Percussions. :-)
I'm thinking about the ratio of Strings and other VSL instruments. For example, if I use Chamber Strings and WoodWinds I/II or Brass I/II, I'm afraid of balance of instruments count. It has to sounds different, if I use Chamber Strings with WoodWind section or Appassionata Strings with the same WoodWind section, isn't it? It will sounds too "Stringy" or "Windy", or not?

25.Appassionata vs Orchestral Strings 9/12/2011 7:28:29 AM
I have one more question, Beat,

Why are you layering the Strings: App + Orch for example? You make even begger setup this way? Why, App is not big enough for you?

Thanks a lot!
Martin
