1.Problems with iLok 4/28/2022 6:51:07 PM

Yes, that is possible. ILok has a dongle, and it is simple (drag and drop) to move licenses from the Cloud session to the iLok dongle. After that you don't need a internet connection to use the libraries, from which the licenses are on the dongle.
Good luck!

Hi Paolo, I see them in the chapter Synchron Series, the same chapter, where Synchron Strings I is. I give you a screenshot.

Hi Dave,

This sounds very well, orchestra, violin, I'm looking forward to the whole concert!
Good luck finishing the concert!

4.[SOLVED] Some instruments don't produce sound 4/7/2022 2:07:14 PM

Hi Arnold,

Just an experience of mine.
I don't know if you are using Vienna Ensemble Pro, but in that case the Integrated Vienna Equalizer Pro can be the problem. When you are using that plugin (especially with using band 1 and/or band 8) on the silent instruments, probably you will get sound on that instrument if you disable Integrated Vienna Equalizer Pro.
VSL knows about this problem and is working on a solution.

Perhaps this helps...

6.MISSION COMPLETED: Moving from eLicenser to iLok 3/18/2022 1:34:02 AM

Hi everybody,

tonight I started downloading the Synchron harp with the iLok license. This went well. I found a solution for my other libraries in my situation. I write it down here. Perhaps it can help other people.

Problem:
It is not possible to use e-licenser licenses and iLok licenses of libraries, that are using the Synchron Player, at the same time on the same computer.
And I have 2,5 TB sample content, what I have to download. That is probably 5 or 6 nights, before this is finished. In that time I cannot use the samples, much to long for me.

Solution:
I have enough space on spinning hard disks to download the installation files of the libraries. In the Vienna Assistant I check in Preferences "Download only mode". Now I download first all installation files of the Synchron and SYNCHRON-ized libraries, that I have.
When the downloads are finished, I start the installation of the libraries. I delete the old samples of the libraries (I need the space) and start the installation process (by clicking in the left upper corner of Vienna Assistant "Install from drive").
I install the Synchron player after the installation of the libraries. For this I uncheck "Download only mode". That makes the installation of the Synchron Player easier.

Benefit:
in the days that I download the libraries I can work with the samples with the old e-licenser licenses. The installation of the libraries take some time (I think a few hours, and not several days). So for me this is a big time saver.

7.FREE UPDATE: Synchron Woodwinds Second Soloists 3/10/2022 9:59:37 PM

I just want to say, that I love the Synchron Woodwinds.

Right now I'm working on a piece for oboe, violin, cello and piano. And I use here the second oboe. A beautiful sound and possibilities for subtile expression, all very natural sounding. Perfect legato and possibilities for use of vibrato and non vibrato tones, all in very smooth transitions. And by using the close mic and and stereo mid mic the oboe can sound quite intimate. The SYNCHRON-ized woodwinds are really good, but the Synchron Woodwinds have something extra for subtile expression.

And when I listen to the subtile expression of the Synchron oboes, I think secretly: should there be a momentum for Synchron solo strings....??

Hi Dave, I enjoyed the music very much and also the performance, the piano and the viola. They sound both as real players. The sound of the recording is also very good. Congratulations!
9.Synchron Harp 2/4/2022 8:12:00 PM

Hi Vulcan,

As far as I can see, there is no expression control (cc 11). But there is a master volume control cc 7 (and if you want, you can change the cc of the master volume to cc11). Indeed, the Synchron Harp Player works different from the Synchron Player because of the nature of the instrument. I had to dive into the manual. You find this HERE .

As far as I can see we have to make the glissandi ourselves. To get the right notes in glissandi the pedal mode is introduced. It works very well, and the good thing about the Vienna Synchron Harp is, that it triggers us to get to know the instrument. Of course I don't know if you are familiar with the instrument. If not, this Video is also very instructive.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

I love the music, I love the programming, I love the sound of the Yamaha in de space.
Beautiful!

Hi Dave, I listened to this piece and I just want to say that I enjoyed it. The music but also the beautiful trumpet. Nice to hear something from you!
Best.
12.Which strings library can sound most like this? 12/2/2021 5:12:36 PM
I just read the first phrase and started listening. While I listening, I thought: I think you can do this with Elite strings. With some legato patches and at the end with some shrt patches. I think it is worh a try. Good luck
13.Hammer on for violin 11/24/2021 7:07:04 PM

Hi Colin,

My first thought is: does it help, when you make the notes legato notes (with a slur)? There is no articulation for hammer-on, but legato could be an option...

14.Dorico expression maps for VSL SYNCHRON-ized solo Strings full presets 11/19/2021 6:38:23 PM

I understand from other threads, that the VSL Dorico expressions maps for VSL SYNCHRON-ized Solo Strings are just for the basic presets.
I want to work with the full presets (beautiful dynamics!, very useful, are not present in the basic presets).

I just finished the change of the VSL Dorico expression map for violin 1 and viola from basic preset to full preset, is a lot of work. (Until now I just adjust the key switches of the playing techniques of the VSL expression maps. The other samples I can add the moment I need them.)

I was wondering, if somebody else has done this also for other VSL solostrings. I can make available the expression map for violin 1 and viola full preset here on the forum. When other people has done this with other solostrings, we can exchange the results and save a lot of time.

15.Synch SE 1 Plus Ex Map Issue in Dorico 11/13/2021 7:55:33 PM

Hi Colin,

Great to hear that placing the "natural" playing technique did the job.

I found 2 good places with explanation you asked for.

This one is an explanation of Expression Maps in Dorico: https://www.rpmseattle.com/of_note/expression-maps-and-play-mode-improvements-new-features-in-dorico-3-5/
At the end of the text you can open a video, that explains exactly, what is written on this page. So you can choose to scroll first to the video to listen and look, and after that read the text if necessary.

And this one is specific for the Expression Maps of VSL in Dorico: https://www.vsl.info/en/tutorials/guides/dorico-integration/quickguide

When you search on the internet for more information, you will find also explanations of older versions of Dorico. These can help to understand some basics of the expression maps, but some things of newer versions aren't implemented yet of course, e.g. https://steinberg.help/dorico/v3/en/dorico/topics/play_mode/play_mode_expression_maps_dialog_r.html

r
https://steinberg.help/dorico/v2/en/dorico/topics/play_mode/play_mode_expression_maps_c.html

Good luck!
Questions you can ask on the forum of VSL or the forum of Dorico. There is a learning curve to use the expression maps in Dorico, but in my opinion, it is totally worth spending some time on learning it.

16.Synch SE 1 Plus Ex Map Issue in Dorico 11/12/2021 10:13:36 PM
Hi Colin,
Something comes into my mind what perhaps should solve this problem. You could try this: go in Dorico in the file you are working on to the Expression Maps, then to "VSL SYzd SE PLUS - Orchestral Violins and Violas".Now uncheck in Mutual Exclusion Groups the Auto option.Take care to place the "Natural" Playing Technique in the same Mutual Exclusion group as the "Spiccato" Playing Techniques.I hope this helps. If this doesn't work, you can also try to place thePlaying Techniques "Natural" in the music on a place before you start the "spiccato" Playing Techniques.
(Be aware, that the changes you make in Expression Maps, only work in the specific Dorico file, the specific music piece. If you start a new Dorico file, you have to make the changes again. Solution: export the edited Expression Map and import it in the new Dorico file.)
(Some explanation. In the Expression map the standard Playing Technique is of course Natural. For this Playing Technique "sustain" is the standard sample. But in Dorico there is a possibility to give short notes another sample. When you click for instance in the list of switches of "VSL SYzd SE PLUS - Orchestral Violins and Violas" on "Natural, Note Length == Medium ==", you see in the neighbour window "Conditions" the Note Length for this Switch (in this case Medium and Short). So if a standard note (Playing Technique) is medium or short in length, another sample is triggered thanif you play a long note.)

Great!
18.[SOLVED] SE 1 Plus 11/11/2021 3:27:43 PM

Hi Colin,

I had a look in the spiccato articulation in Dorico Pro in the SYzd SE Plus Orchestral violins. There I see C0/E1 (what is correct). Do you have installed the VSL for Dorico Installer v.1.0.81?
You can find this in MyVSL and then "Notation related".
After installing this file you find in Expression Maps (in the Play tab of Dorico) "SYzd SE Plus Orchestral violins and violas". When you choose this for violin 2, it should work properly. I hope this helps.

Definitely more legato!

I hope this will work for you!

22.Smoothest legato for Synchronized Woodwinds 10/25/2021 8:42:10 PM

And a combination of Wave Start Offset, Start Offset Attack, in the Perform tab the Legato mode "poly", and then a little overlap from note to note, does that work for you?

By the way: the examples you posted are rather acceptable in my ears, but I found out, that people can judge very different about these things. So who knows, the last suggestion works for you...

23.Smoothest legato for Synchronized Woodwinds 10/25/2021 6:12:59 PM

Hi Paolo,

You could try in the "Edit" tab the Wave Start Offset option. You probably will have to adapt the Start Offset Attack also. It is possible to make one or more slots with the samples adjusted with Wave Start Offset.
Then you can make a choice.
In ViPro it is possible to adapt the Wave Start Offset with automation. Unfortunately that isn't (yet?...) the case in the Synchron Player.

Sometimes you can get reasonable results with the attack automation. That automation can diminish the loud transition sounds. I hope this helps...
