I'm a little confused: I thought, that with timbre adjust you adjust the timbre together with the dynamics...
Or am I wrong?

Bravo! I was really impressed by the climax you made. And also the strings and the total sound of the orchestra sound very well. With a very musical expression! Well done.

7.SY-ized solo strings sordino not visible in the player 10/23/2022 10:17:17 PM

I don't know what you mean with VS Player. You need the Synchron Player for a SYNCHRON-ized library.

8.iLOK licenses Vienna Suite and Vienna Imperial 10/19/2022 10:42:32 PM
Since yesterday the iLOK version of Vienna Suite and Vienna Imperial are available. There are some issues yet. I wrote about that to the team by e-mail.
On this place I should like to express my enthusiasm for the improvements in the new version of the Vienna Imperial.
Some floating tones are replaced by non floating ones.
Alas I can't make a one to one comparison, but I have the impression that some more things have been improved...

Thanks!
9.Symphony no.1 10/1/2022 8:00:34 PM

Thank you for sharing this symphony. I was captivated.
I read on your site about story telling and I think, that's exactly why I was captivated until the end.
I liked also the instrumentation and the very natural use of the VSL instruments and MIR PRO. Very convincing!

Congratulations!

10.iLOK licenses Vienna Suite and Vienna Imperial 9/28/2022 9:44:40 PM

Hi,

This evening I looked in my licenses and saw that the Vienna Suite and Vienna Imperial have a green dot, so they have an iLOK license now.
I looked in the iLOK license manager and there these licenses are also available.
In the Vienna Assistant I don't see them!
Is this correct for the moment (work in progress)?

Thanks

11.VI Saxophone Range 9/5/2022 9:54:15 PM

Hi Peter,

You can extend in Vienna Instruments Pro  the range of all instruments (you have to do this for every patch again).

I made an image. After clicking on "Advanced" at the red 1 and clicking on the sign at the red 2 you can add a few notes by dragging the slider at the red 3 to the right.

If you don't have Vienna Instruments Pro, you can get it free of charge when you change from e-licenser to Ilok.

Good luck

12.VSL mics too far away? 9/4/2022 10:43:10 AM

@ MIka: Always nice to hear, how experiences of people can differ from each other. I went just the other way, from the French company's emulation to VSL Steinway, which sounds in my ear more realistic and beautiful (and I'm a pianist too).
How experiences of people can be different, even opposite . So not a right or wrong, but different.

@ Elbarn: I get good results with mixing especially mid 2 mics with the condenser clos 1 mics as a base. And I add sometimes a little of the room mic or one of the surround mics. But I don't know if this is the sound you are looking for.

13.Remarkable improved speed Synchron Player 8/26/2022 10:09:59 PM

I just want to say, that the last update of Synchron Player (v1.2.171, August 25th, 2022) gives a remarkable improved speed with loading a rather big orchestra template. And the same for the Synchron Piano Player (v.2.83), the Synchron Harp Player (v1.2.79) and the Vienna Organ Player (v1.2.137). Great job! Thanks.

14.Little piece for violin and piano 8/16/2022 8:48:24 PM

On the 20th of december 2017 William started a thread on this forum, called "Composer challenge" about composing melodies. There I chimed in for the first time on this forum with an own composition, a little piece for piano, called "For a little one, a tender one".

These days I am experimenting with MIR PRO 3D and with the SYNCHRON-ized Solo strings, the muted and unmuted ones. I made a arrangement of the piece for violin and piano, all very simple. It is just a lullaby.

I am using the character presets of MIR PRO 3D, the "01 violin 1 center warm" for the unmuted part, and in the second part with the muted violin the preset "01 Volin sord Solo center warm". (The piano is the Steinway)

In the meantime I kept experimenting to get a result as realistic as possible. The version that can be heard now is a little modified version of the character preset "01 violin 1 center clear" for the first part. I set toggle band 2, 4 and 6 a little bit higher. Also I placed the violin further away from the microphone in MIR3D and I turned the direction of the violin a little away from the microphone. I think for this moment the best option.

For who is interested, here is the link.

15.Automation presets Vienna MIR Pro 3D 8/16/2022 6:53:24 PM

In the meantime I found a solution.

  • I copied 2 character presets of "violin 1" and 2 character presets of "violin 1 sord" exactly to the Vienna equalizer Pro, manually.
  • I set 2 Vienna equalizers Pro in the violin channel.
  • I automated the toggle off/on of the bands of one equalizer with cc100, the other with cc 101.
  • And so I could choose the right character equalizer settings (muted or unmuted).
  • I took care that the character preset within MIR PRO 3D was set on "pure".

For those who wants to use the presets of Vienna Equalizer Pro, I attach them in a zip-file to this post.

They have to be placed in a Windows computer in:
Documents > VSL > Vienna Ensemble Pro > Vienna Equalizer Pro > Presets

or in Documents > VSL > Vienna Equalizer Pro > Presets

(In a MAC computer I don't know).

16.Automation presets Vienna MIR Pro 3D 8/10/2022 6:09:01 PM

Hi, I’m working on a piece for violin and piano. I use violin 1 and violin 1 sord in one Synchron Player instance. I use Vienna MIR Pro 3D for the violin, with the MIRx settings.
The Character equalizer settings for the muted and unmuted version are quite different from each other. Is there a way to automate the 2 Character presets, so that I can keep the muted and unmuted version in one Player and switch between the 2?

By the way, I like working with MIR PRO 3D very much. It looks like, some musical details in “singing” tones are more audible with the solostrings. I'm glad with it!

17.Solo Strings Con Sordino 7/21/2022 12:10:35 AM

+1

Especially with MIR PRO 3D, that make the SYNCHRON-ized libraries even better (!),
"SYNCHRON-ized Muted Solo Strings", or as the name of the VI version: "SYNCHRON-ized Solo Strings II",
it should be a great addition to my libraries!
And what a great plus would be, is that we can use then the Timbre Adjust tool, which has become an indispensable tool for me.

18.Ballad for Violoncello and Orchestra 7/19/2022 9:41:39 AM

Hi Mike,

Thanks for taking the time to listen to the music. I really appreciate that,
also your analysis of the piece in many aspects. Thanks for that. I send you a PM.

19.Dorico Expression map for SYNCHRON-ized Solo Strings, violin 1 and viola, full presets 7/8/2022 10:00:30 PM
Hi everybody,
VSL has made expression maps for SYNCHRON-ized Solo Strings, that are for the basic presets and not the full presets.I just finished an expression map for violin 1 and viola (they use the same expression map), which is a copy of the VSL expression map, but for the full preset. So I followed exactly the choices that VSL made. By adding more playing techniques in this expression map, you can use also the samples, that are not in the basic preset, more easily. I hope this is useful for some of you. (I placed this message also on the Dorico forum of course).
20.Ballad for Violoncello and Orchestra 7/6/2022 5:18:13 PM

Hi, I finished a piece for violoncello and orchestra. For me with not so much full symphony orchestra experience it was a discovery journey, for the violoncello as well as for the orchestra. I used mostly Synchron libraries (not the Synchron-ized ones). The muted strings are a combination of muted orchestra strings + muted dimension strings.
I hope you enjoy it.

21.Synchron Pseudo-Solo Strings 6/17/2022 1:10:43 AM

Hi,

a very interesting experiment, which shows how well Synchron Solo Strings can work, definitely!
Unfortunately you can hear something of the groups now and than to which the soloists belong. But I think this is inevitable.

Thanks for sharing this experiment!

22.Long saving times of VI Pro templates in VE Pro 7_iLok versions 5/30/2022 7:13:56 PM

Dorico is autosaving while I'm wrting this reply and has become unresponsive for at least 15 minutes now, so my work is gone, I'm afraid.

I can't find a solution on this forum or internet, or did I miss something?

Hi, there is one thing you can do to speed up things while working in Dorico.
In the tab of an instance of VEPro you see this sign: (!)
When you click on that sign, Dorico doesn't save any longer that instance.
So click on each of the (!) signs of the 10 tabs of all VEPro instances, and you will no longer be held up by the intermediate savings by Dorico.
WARNING: you have to save VEPro before closing it, because VEPro has to save now the instances, because Dorico doesn't do it any longer! In Windows you can save the VEPro instances by CTR + Shift + S (I am not familiar with Apple computers). And before you close VEPro you are asked if you want to save your save the Server Project.
Hope that this helps.

23.Problems with iLok 4/28/2022 6:51:07 PM

Galuwen

Yes, that is possible. ILok has a dongle, and it is simple (drag and drop) to move licenses from the Cloud session to the iLok dongle. After that you don't need a internet connection to use the libraries, from which the licenses are on the dongle.
Good luck!

24.MISSION COMPLETED: Moving from eLicenser to iLok 4/16/2022 12:28:04 AM

Hi Paolo, I see them in the chapter Synchron Series, the same chapter, where Synchron Strings I is. I give you a screenshot.

25.Link expired 4/14/2022 4:30:13 PM

Hi Dave,

This sounds very well, orchestra, violin, I'm looking forward to the whole concert!
Good luck finishing the concert!
