1.VEP 5 With Hauptwerk 8/28/2020 6:04:41 PM

Did you ever manage to get registration changes stored in your DAW when Hauptwerk is linked via VSL Ensemble?

I use Hauptwerk 5 and VSL Ensemble Pro 7, and everything is fine except for recording registration changes.

Its weird how the channels setup within the DAW are NOT the same as those of the keyboards.  It took ages to messing around trying to get the right keyboard playing on replay !

2.VSL Steinway D: The BEST (resolved) 6/13/2020 10:52:36 AM

Just a 2010 Steinway Model A (sadly).

We went to Steinway Hall (London) and they set out 6 instruments for us.  The one we chose was the clear winner in terms of its most beautiful resonant sound.

In our home (with wooden floor boards and a nice cavity underneath), it sounds beautiful - really bright when played FFF and a gorgeous sound when played ppp.

The only downside is that it has taken about 5 years for the tuning to settle (it went all over the place - even when the tuner was tuning it).

I've already reported a general issue with all the Synchron pianos (or it's a plugin issue) - the key noise control doesn't work.  It has been confirmed that this is a bug.  Looking forwards to this being fixed.

From my experimentation, lowing the dymamics to about 77% provides the timbre variation i would expect, based on my own Steinway at home.

It was the first thing I noticed about the Synchron Steinway. Interestingly, this doesn't seem to be a problem with the Bosendorfer Imperial.

I use a Roland A80 keyboard, and setting midi sensitivity on the synchron player down 10 works well.
4.elicenser problem? 12/11/2019 7:36:34 PM

The way I got round the problem of "Vienna Instruments (M6)"  - saying it was open so you couldn't install any sample sets:

From the eLicenser, add the activation codes directly to eLicenser.  Then download the authorisation (from a box at the bottom of the eLicenser window).  When you've done that, run the download manager and try installing the sample set again.

I was able to install everything this way ( I can't remember the precise wording on the eLicenser window and as I've nothing new to download, so the relevant bit doesn't appear).

5.elicenser problem? 12/9/2019 6:17:09 PM

I had this problem too, but I found that adding the activation keys directly to elicenser then downloading the license for each new sample set meant that when going back to the download manager, everything worked a treat.

It seems that saying (install) from download manger should only be done once you have activated the new sampleset first.

If you don't do it this way, it tries to license the sampleset, but fails, giving the wrong reason !

6.Why use Ensemble rather than several instances of instruments 9/10/2018 7:37:08 PM

Thanks so much for getting back.

What you said does make sense.

7.Why use Ensemble rather than several instances of instruments 9/8/2018 8:49:01 AM

What is the benefit of using Vienna Ensemble rather than separate instances of Vienna Instruments?

I assumed that VE offers the opportunity of setting true stereo balancing (rather than just panning) as this doesn't seem possible from within Vienna Instr(pro) and it is perhaps easier and more memory efficient to layer multiple tracks using VE. However, I don't notice any difference in the sound field if I change the instrument position via Vienna Ensemble or via panning (as two separate tracks).

It is certainly easier to setup and manage separate instances of V Instr.

I use Sonar Platinum.
